Can't get supply in our new house

Hi, im hoping someone can offer some advice.
We moved into a new rented house last week, we had EDF in old house, and this one has a current supplier of EON.
I've took readings when we moved in, and when contacting EON to get a new account set up (even though i would be planning on switching afterwards) they've told me that there remains a balance outstanding on this property, and that to start a new account with them i must send them a copy of my rental contract to prove im not the previous tenant.
Obviously i have nothing to worry about as i can prove who i am, but im not really comfortable with sending them a copy of our contract.
Is this really the only way to get this sorted? im presuming that if carried on and tried to switch to another supplier, they would be blocked by the same issue??
Can anyone help?

  • Seriously is this worth a post?

"but im not really comfortable with sending them a copy of our contract."

Why on earth would this be an issue if you have nothing to hide?

Get it sent off and sorted.

I suppose you could alternatively have your solicitor write to them - stating you are the new occupier and pointing out their duty to connect on request.

The past occupiers debt is of no relevance or concern to you.

    Hi partysis81,

We do sometimes ask for tenancy agreements when there is some sort of dispute, this could be down to conflicting info about dates and who is responsible, meter readings etc.

We wouldn't normally ask for this if there were no issues.

Do you have all of the information that we need, the date you took responsibility, meter readings from this date?

If you need me to help further, just pop your details to me with all of the moving information to the email address in my profile page and I'll see if I can find out what's going on.
