I am going dizzy trying to find cheap car insurance for my old banger
gone through all the recommended sites, but cannot believe how much it has gone up since last year.
I have umpteen years no claims, 62 years young :-/ only drive approx 4000 year, car: Vauxhall Astra Merit 1995, 3 door. Only me driving, garaged, very safe address has anyone got a similar car and found a cheap insurance company? if so PLEASE send me a link
(I am not being lazy honest!)

I'd think of...
Saga
Anything linked to your job, type discounts
Do your current insurers know the LOW miles, you cover??
As it's a low value car, are you going for MAXIMUM excess & third party, fire & theft, only?
Do a search in google - then go to one of the, 'we'll beat the quote you've got, or give you £50' type companies, if you do change.
Also, take the policy out on line, for possible
extra discounts.

Hi Van,
Thank you for your reply, I have tried what you suggested, but Saga and the others which do their marketing on the premise that they are cheaper for the over 50's ALL turn out to be MORE expensive than the normal companies!
Another thing that amazes me is that Third part Fire and Theft is the SAME as comprehensive, and in the case of Zurich MORE expensive than comprehensive! ??? I would just LOVE for someone to explain that to me ::)
I am still searching >:( but the prices are just disgusting!
cheapest £149 upto £250!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!they are ALL a load of crooks :-XWhen man sacrifices the Love of POWER for the Power of Love, there will be peace on earth.0 -
Have you got a quidco account? There are some big cashbacks on there at the moment, e.g. Lloyds TSB £120, Barclays £85, Prudential £100 etc.
No idea if the quotes would be competitive but it's worth a try. My mom got £95 back from Barcalys for her home insurance and it was a very good quote. It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -

If it makes you feel any better, I'm looking forward to next year when mine should sneak under £600... :rolleyes:0 -
Hi - I have an old banger too.
I got my 3rd party insurance using the AA via quidco.
It was £143 but I got £55 cashback (after the £5 quidco deduction) so it was £88 in total.
I don't think you will get it much below £100 because regardless of the state of your car a 3rd party claim can still be large (Gary Harts was £30 million when his landrover ended up on the train track).
I couldn't say whether this particular offer is still available as I did mine 6 months ago, but I would recommed going to quidco and looking for the largest cashback in £s (not %).0 -
