Samsung BD-D5500 region hack success.

Started thinking about it again after seeing a thread about a region free player.

Thought I'd share it since Samsung players are supposedly difficult to hack.

I take no credit for it (or responsibility if it goes wrong). I've just pieced together bits from different forums.

The player apparently used to be quite easy to hack using the instructions on the VideoHelp page but hasn't worked since about update 1016, or if it has then it seems to have been difficult to apply.


I came across a firmware downgrade on the SamyGO forums. After following the instructions there I then tried the hack from the VideoHelp forum which worked on the first attempt.

Although I ignored the advice on SamyGO to disable further firmware updates. I have updated to the latest firmware (1030) and it all seems to work okay.


Also worth mentioning that the downgrade seems to cover many of the Samsung Blu-Ray models so this might also work for other players besides the D5500.
