Just bought finest mince pies from tesco express only to get home and realise they are dated 21/11/12. At home, if they were a day out of date I would eat them but not sure if this might be pushing it? Would you eat or bin? Was looking forward to them! Obviously i'll not eat them all...bin the rest? Freeze? If it was for someone else I would bin but for me? Tesco are sending me a giftcard to appologise so wont cost to bin.

I'd take a bite and see how they taste. I dont worry to much about dates, usually just go by my nose/ tastebuds, but maybe I'm just a daredevil lol:)0

Pass them here. I'll tidy them away for you.:DReason for edit? Can spell, can't type!0

They look and smell good, was going to taste but my husband binned them

Should of took them back and got a nice voucher after you complain like mad.0

I thought that the penalties for selling food past its sell by date ran into thousands of pounds. I'd be expecting a little more than a "giftcard"!0

only use by, perfectly fine to sell food past its 'best before' date which mince pies would have as its just food past its best, use by mean food would more than likly be unfit to eat and would be illegal to sell.0

I do find it amazing that something that is perfectly wholesome to eat at one minute to midnight turns into instant death at one minute past midnight.......................
use your common sense ........................!!!!!!!!!!!!!0 -

In their boxes?
You could mix them into custard and make mince pie ice-cream.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -
Mince meat itself lasts for ever - it would only be the pastry which might be slightly stale but perfectly safe to eat. Finding out if something is edible is best solved by tasting and smelling - that's what our noses and eyes are for. I'd have either eaten them or taken them back, never just thrown them away.0
