CapitalOne Credit Cards - Student needs help.

I been getting a lot of credit card companies wanting me to sign up and capital one keeps sending me letters. Anyway I did not know what a CC (Credit Card) was until now. Basically I have a spending limit and can buy stuff and the company will pay it for me and I will pay them at a later date inc interest. So it does not come out of my bank account.... Correct?

Second is I am thinking of signing up because I do actually do a lot of online shopping and my current debit card is maestro and most american companies do not support it. If I use a CapitalOne CC I will be able to use it since it uses mastercard.

Now a few things I need to clear up - It says there is a minimum payment I must pay them each month, is this if I buy something or not? If I buy something I pay it off the debt the second day will they charge interest and is it likely I will pay more?

Also if I don't use the card or buy anything can they still charge me?

Can someone clear this up..Thanks

    Yes

You will probably get a Visa card but the principle is the same.

Only if you have an outstanding balance at the statement date, so no and no, unless you use the card for a cash advance.

    No.

  • One other question what is:

    electoral roll
  • The electoral register is the list of everyone who is registered to vote in a local area. You must be on the electoral register to vote at elections, and not being on the register can also affect your credit rating. You are not automatically registered even if you pay council tax.

There are two versions of the register - the full version and the edited version. Your details will appear on the full version of the register, but you can choose to have your details excluded from the edited version when registering. The full register is used for elections, preventing and detecting crime, and checking applications for credit. The edited register is available for general sale and can be used for commercial activities such as marketing.
