  • An update - The solicitor asked the Land Registry for guidance on the issue of whether the property needed to be marked in the register or not. They said the wording on the full search is not conclusive and thankfully they say we do not need to register it with them when we change the ownership to ourselves. All we need now is an insurance policy and we are happy to proceed. :p

  • I agree the right should be abolished. I am a Christian and I think it reflects badly on the Church that it should be trying to collect money in this way.

    The Church should be about people not buildings. If a Church building gets into disrepair then it can fall down unless someone else can look after it if they think it is important. The people can meet in the village hall or pub instead. Old buildings may be beautiful etc but they are not very practical, easy to heat, etc.

    Actually I suspect that a lot of parochial church councils are just keeping a low profile and will heave a great sigh of relief when 13th October 2013 comes and they start to lose the right to claim. (Technically they will still be able to claim against the owner of a property that is affected if it was bought before that date and as not changed hands since, even though there is no registration at the Land Registry.)

    Now as wording means that no proven liability Sols looking for quote for an indemnity, but asking for acreage of property??? It's on a housing development and we haven't seen anything anywhere about the size of the plot. Pretty sure checked alloriginal deeds and survey but no joy.

    should they just get cover upto an area?? eg 1 acre when definitely nowhere near this.

    Just to add to the mix, how would communal areas be covered?

    Boy this house better be great!!!:j
