  • I think your son may be entitled to dla if he is under 60.

  • Is the £45 you receive weekly a payment of DLA (disability living allowance) for your son, or is this your own income? Your son needs to be in receipt of the middle or higher care element of DLA before you can apply for carer's allowance. Also, if you are receiving state pension that is higher than the weekly payment of carer's allowance, you are not entitled to receive both. However, you can still apply and be given what is called an underlying entitlement to carer's allowance, which can be advantageous if you are claiming other benefits such as pension credit or housing/council tax benefit. As for Attendance Allowance, you can apply for this when you are 65+ and this may be worth considering if you or your husband are experiencing any difficulties in caring for yourselves.
