in Credit cards
Recently registered one of my credit cards with Mastercard 'Securecode' service which is supposed to give you that last bit of level of prevention from some-one fraudulently using your card for online purchases. I.e. even if someone has your card and other details such as address etc they cannot use this card to buy online because it has the added security of inserting an additional code (apart from the security number) into any transactions attempted.
Just one problem, it's SO secure that I can't get a purchase through on sites which use the securecode method, even though I enter the details absolutely correctly  it comes up 'card issuer has declined payment' (not though lack of available funds)
I even checked with my card issuer who had declined the transaction, the operative I spoke to checked my a/c and actually confirmed that I had entered the correct code (he didn't ask me what it was of course), but seemed at a total loss to explain why payment had been declined. It has now happened to another friend of mine who has gone through hell and high water to get his transaction through - no such luck! In desperation he phoned his bank who in this case was the card issuer also, they said it should work and that many online shops were converting to use it.
To add insult to injury it appears that you can't even 'de-register' from the blasted service.
Would be interested to hear comments from anyone who's had the same situation - it's a fairly recent service I assume so I would think that more and more of us are going to fall foul of this idiotic system.
IF YOU KNOW HOW TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM PLEASE POST REPLY - DESPERATE & ABOUT IT!

Hi we got an email via internet banking, messages, anyway, it said if we didnt sign up for this securecode on or after 27th april 07 we wouldnt be able to use our mastercard online again, went into HSBC issueing bank of card, they said they didnt know anything about it, infact they even went on to say it was a scam, but I phoned mastercard up, spoke to them about it, they said it was not a scam and would get in touch with HSBC to confirm this, so have registered with this mastercard securecode, as I did an order with 101cd.com for a cd and a dvd which have not come and when I go on to the account it says its being processed, which has been like that now for around 3 weeks, so I guess they were right in saying after 27th april 07 your card wont work online unless you sign up to the securecode thing,
when I went onto internet banking tonght there it is in plain view on my internet banking mastercard secure code, which then gives you a code of 6 digits to use when you are signing up to securecode, so if it is a scam its a pretty good one to be on my internet banking HSBC they dont know what they are talking about.
am going to cancel the order with 101cd.com and go else where for the things I want, and see if I get the same re-action, processing indeffinently,

Verified by Visa never works for me either. Credit cards shouldn't be making this nonsense compulsory especially when it doesn't even work. They seem to endeavouring to kill online commerce.Krusty & Phil Madoff, 1990 - 2007:

I buy most 99.99% of my stuff online, so if this goes tits-up I'll be thinking of different cards, I must admit, the prospect of more protection is good, if it works, but if it doesnt then it'll be bye-bye mastercard, I have done 3 order's online tonight, for small amount's but if these dont go through then I will be really peeped off, and will strongly think about ditching mastercard all togethter,

Hi all, well I made a transaction with my mastercard last night, got an email this morning saying the order has been processed, and I should receive my goods via royal mail recorded delivery, in the next day or so, so it does work, well for me anyway, I did notice on the message I got on my internet banking that it said you could not sign-up for this until 27th april 07 and that if you didnt you would no longer be able to buy via online, yet it didnt ask me for any secure code, which is what you get when you sign up, anyway just thought I'd let you know that 1 transaction has gone through ok.
let's hope the other 2 do.
