Email Stuck in my Outbox

I was sending an email with quite a few photos attached. The email failed to send. Now, every time I open windows mail it attempts to send this same email, always unsuccessfully, and when I go to the outbox to delete this message, there is no option to delete and I get windows mail 'not responding'. All other programs then run really sluggish until I reboot the computer.
This is the error message:Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Subject 'Rochdale Shopping Centre', Account: 'mail.virgin.net', Server: 'smtp.virgin.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 465, Secure(SSL): Yes, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F
Any ideas?
TIA.

I used to get similar "stuck in the outbox" scenarios whereby I couldn't delete them. One workaround I found was to select the offending email and then MOVE TO FOLDER it. Move it to the Deleted Items folder for example or even put it in the Inbox and then delete.

With regards to your error message - Many websites state it is due to conflicting anti-virus software and firewall....and could even be your settings:
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_vista-networking/windows-mail-error-code-0x800ccc0f/0ad4c3c2-e122-47a8-9f30-11999a0ce55a
Others on the net suggest backing up your emails (File >> Export), deleting existing emails and then importing them again. Others suggest a system restore. Others suggest installing Windows Live Mail and so on......Welcome to the Internet!!!!!!!
