more cameras less police though sadly police tax goes up more in the council tax so there shouldnt be any reason why it should
oh & im sure all the sales reps making the money travelling about not having to be in the office will have something to say about the too!0 -

Thank you!I have thoroughly enjoyed swapping thoughts, opinions and even taradiddle with you. It's been fun! It's great to thrash out ideas and why we think/feel/do what we do because it broadens the mindBut I do think I should :shhh: now.

Probably the reps will have a thing or two to say - but then they know what half of their customers think about them anyway! (and how much the customers moan behind their backs about wasting their time etc). The cost of the reps only adds to the pricr of the goods or services.
Unfortunatly more cameras mean more admin as well so the police just have to do a different job .... non constructive paperwork and chasing after people who haven't paid the fines. Think its catch 22 really.0 -

Thankyou,Queenie,I enjoyed it too.
I am sorry Dougk, but cannot agree with your relaxed attitude over the police
being redirected to other work.
The principal cause of accidents, certainly on the example in my last post,
was "driving without due care and attention"or "careless driving".In the past few years, prosecutions for careless, dangerous and drunken driving
have fallen, sadly not because standards have improved.
I am aware that many police are now diverted to preventing terrorist attacks.
But if there is a desire to halt the rise in road accidents and deaths[and there should be],then a greater concentration of resources should be applied to the major causes, and not squandered on speed cameras.0 -
This week a Policeman was found not guilty of speeding. He was doing over 80mph in a 30mph area and over 150 mph on the motorway.
I had 3 points and sixty pound fine for doing 33mph.
Makes me soooooo mad.0 -
Personally,i don't have a problem with speed cameras,do nearly 400 miles a day along the M4.
Even on the J14-18 section, where all the publicity has been recently, drivers still totally ignore the speed limit, and i don't mean by 5-10mph.
The problem i do have is with the illuminated temporary speed limit signs, every day,i find there are some that do not update when the obstruction has cleared. e.g,last week,i was driving between J34 and 35 at 2am,the signs were saying 30 mph,but there was no reason for it,so drivers tend to ignore them.
I have emailed the Highways Agency to find out who is responsable for monitoring these signs.
My son did get a fine (radar gun)for doing 73mph on a dual carriageway,we couldn't understand why,so after making enquiries,we found out it was because he was driving a non car derived van (ford transit),the speed limit for these is 60mph on a dual carriageway, although not many people know that. We were a bit upset at first, but then the onus is on the driver to know these things.Sponsored by Tesco Clubcard Points !!0 -

I have several ways (that actually work) of avoiding paying them/taking the points (most of which are perfectly legal, and a few are 'dubious'), but I can't post them here.0 -
I think OP might be meaning Specs cameras and possibly Truvelo too.
Gatso will get anyone anytime anyplace, because they have a flash.
Truvelo, Will photo from the front of the vehicle with no visible flash but will work day or night.
SPECS read your number plate, and measure you over a distance of 3 miles or whatever. The ones I know of are on the M5 or M6 somewhere, and there are a load of Streetlights in the area, so presumably they have no difficulty reading your number plate. ...Edit: correction/addition SPECS also use infra red so will work anywhere anytime.
If there are specs in an unlit place then If you have your lights on full they might not be able to read it, but it's not worth finding out.
Always drive with your full beams on so you can see the cameras reflect the light in the distance.
Best thing is to have a number plate like James Bond which rotates to a different number.0 -
Most Gatsos have no film in them though. For example, in Gloucester they one or two camera units for aronud 60 roadside boxes.
I can cope with cameras, but I think a rethink of limits would help. ie: put limits where they're really needed and enforce them, but bin the stupid ones. For example, on the new bit of road in Gloucester the 30 limit extends out into fields for about 1/2 a mile on a dead straight bit of road. !!!!!! does that acheive.
My friend who was camerad doing 75 on a desserted motorway at 7am. What has 3 points acheived apart from !!!!!! him off? Don't forget the police driver clocked doing 85 in a 30 limit "testing" his new car.The best way to reduce accidents is to cut the miles travelled.Happy chappy0 -

If they are tosh can you say what the tosh ones are as sold on Ebay?
One of your ways, that you are unwilling to let on might be the PACE statement? This does work with some forces but is not gauranteed and one day someone will be called on it, you can almost gaurantee the magistrates wil rule against you, you then have the expense of appeal to the high court. And if you win they might appeal to the Lords. But there's no harm in trying a PACE statement and then when they send you your "offer" to pay up or go to court you can make a decescion, but using the PACE statement that offer may never come so you'll be ok.
It will soon become standard practice for all PACE statements to be followed by offers.
I do know one way that is illegal, it is the method no doubt used by a lot of police who get caught...someone on the inside knows which buttons to press on the computer, like the one marked "delete". This should of course be impossible to do, the software should not allow a deletion of a record, and all deletions should have to be ruthlessly recorded and inspected for possible suspicious behaviour patterns. Indeed all deleted records should have to be stored in a fail safe system which is independantly "audited" by a professional body whose job would be to look out for suspicious goings on.0
