Suddenly my wired mouse is not recognised by my acer netbook.
Tried other mice but no go yet they all work o.k. with other computers.
only thing that is recognised is the touchpad which I hate using.
any suggestions please?

If it was my laptop I would try a system restore to a time BEFORE my mouse stopped working. What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0

Thanks for the reply, I could do that but I'd really like to know why it has stopped working.
If I do a system restore, won't I lose any security updates?
Knowing my luck it was probably one of those that caused this in the first place:(0 -
Can you go into device manager and choose detect hardware changes?0
-
Yes prowla, just done that but nothing showing up except the touchpad as before.
OOps, I'd tried 2 usb ports on right hand side where the mouse used to work, no go, but just realised there was another port on the left and guess what?:o
All is well:j
However I'll never live this down.0 -
Doh! Guess there must be a wonky USB port then.
(It might be worth trying deleting in device manager and then re-scanning for hardware.)0 -
Obviously 2 wonky ports!
Not sure what you suggest deleting.0 -
In device manager you may have some items with yellow exclaimation marks in your usb section see if any of them refer to HID/MouseSallySunshine wrote: »Obviously 2 wonky ports!

Nope, no yellow exclaimation marks.
It's working so I'm not going to mess around!0 -

Yup - I was suggesting that, if it were a driver issue then removing the USB ports in device manager and then searching & reinstalling them might fix it.
But, as you say, you've got something working so maybe don't be tempted to fiddle with it.0
