Have you tried the support area at www.ea.com? I would have a look, but it's blocked from work!
Some more suggestions here:

Possible a graphics driver problem?Charlie0 -
Yes, that's what my guess would be. That sort of crash is usually caused by a graphics issue. Update your video card drivers and DirectX (if you're not running DirectX 9.0c already). To find out what your video card make and model is and what DirectX version you have, go to Start --> Run --> type in 'dxdiag' (without the quotes) --> OK. The System and Display tabs there will give you all the info you need. Then just go to your video card manufacturer's website and download the latest drivers for it from there. The true cost of something is what you give up to get it.0

You don't need much of a machine to play SIMS.
My comp is only 1.8GHz with an old ATI 9500Pro graphics card. It's 4 years old now and runs DirectX 9.0c fine.
Do you get the same problems if you only try to play the original game without any of the expansion sets i.e. you only have the original game installed?
Edit - You don't need to change any settings in DirectX. If you go through the tabs, does it show any problems and do the tests it offers you run OK?Dave. :wave:0 -

This seems to be the only problem...?
Display Tab 1: The file vtdisp.dll is not digitally signed, which means that it has not been tested by Microsoft's Windows Hardware Quality Labs (WHQL). You may be able to get a WHQL logo'd driver from the hardware manufacturer. Karen xx:eek:Always trying to get a Bargain lol

Don't worry about that, that's just the usual disclaimer from Microsoft. It doesn't mean the driver doesn't work/won't work, just that it hasn't been tested by Microsoft (a bit like Tesco telling you 'This loaf of bread hasn't been baked by Tesco so we can't guarantee it will make good toast')
The minimum requirements for that game are quite low, so the specs you pasted for your CPU and memory are fine for running that game. You're running the most up-to-date DirectX version so that's fine too. You may just need to update your video card drivers to get the game to run.
Edit: I've just seen your other thread, so try using the drivers suggested there. If the game still won't run with the updated drivers, I would try installing Windows XP over your current XP install (without uninstalling). That fixes problems when settings have been corrupted/system files are missing, which could be the root of the problems you're experiencing. The true cost of something is what you give up to get it.0
