Sky HD box sold on ebay- buyer says it won't record

You dont need a subscription to record actually. You need a Sky HD Box and an old style blue viewing card.
My Mum has no sky subscription any more and can record, pause, fast forward etc through the freeview channels available through the box using my old blue card.0 -

Yes but very rare and only because the old style blue viewing card at some point missed its "kill" signal.
For 99% of the Sky viewing population you need to either have a subscription or to pay £10pm approximately to keep the recording features after cancellation.0 -

Any blue viewing card in a HD box will allow you to record etc. Blue cards can be bought on eBay for a tenner. I'm running 3 at the moment as are hundreds of others on forums if you Google it.0 -

I have done - it seems to be a bit of a hit and miss as far as the old blue cards are concerned.
However it's only because the card missed its kill signal as I said before.0 -

Actually, not any blue card. I got one off eBay a couple of months ago that isn't allowing me to record. If you google, it has to be one that wasn't in use when they started cancelling these with the "kill" signal. It was only a few ££s so I wasn't too bothered but it's not as widespread as you seem to think.0 -
:T:T Nice one.
I had a similar problem and i specifically stated everything in the listing. Buyer all arrogant, telling me its not as expected blah, blah, blah. I send a long email talking him through it and i've heard nothing since. That was about six weeks ago.
A thank you, appology and great feedback would have been nice.
I threw my blue card away - can't see any claiming to work for record on ebay0 -
Nice to hear a happy ending Jem.
Hopefully the buyer will now give positive feedback with good stars.0 -

I must be lucky then because I've never had one not work and I've had a few over the years for family etc.
Either way the point I was making is that you don't necessarily need a subscription to record. You don't need a subscription to watch either but that's a whole other (probably not allowed) thread. Lol0
