Does anyone know...Barclaycard question

My Barclaycard min payment is due tomorrow by direct debit.
If i pay an additional payment through the barclaycard website, it flags up saying 'this amount is less than the minimum payment do you want to proceed?'
My question is, if i make an extra payment in this way will it affect the direct debit coming out?

I don't want to make this additional payment (£80) and it mess up the direct debit in some way.

Has anyone done this?

Thanks

DD is a 3-day process, so Barclaycard started your DD claim last Thursday.

Anything you do now will not stop it being claimed...especially since, in banking terms, 'Monday' actually started at close of business last Friday.
  • Ok, thanks. So it won't affect payments for next months DD?

No. Why would it? The next statement (from which next month's minimum payment DD is calculated) hasn't even been produced yet (probably due in a week or two?).

If you make a payment between the statement date and when the direct debit is taken it will reduce the amount debited so that overall they take no more than the minimum payment (although this probably won't apply when the direct debit is already being processed).

I was an Egg customer who was transferred to Barclaycard, and with Egg they always direct debited the full minimum payment no matter whether you had made additional payments.

If you want to make an additional payment, the most straightforward way I find is to wait for the statement date, then make a payment of the minimum plus the amount you want to overpay. It skips that month's direct debit (because you have paid over the minimum) and then carries on as before with the next statement.

I was an Egg customer too but my DD (Barclays or Egg) has never been taken if I make a payment between the statement date and about 5 days or so before the DD is due to be taken.

That's what i was afraid of.
I manged to find the card so will just set up a faster payment from my current account instead. That should be ok...

If you're that worried about it then why don't you just wait until tomorrow when the direct debit has already been taken, then make the extra payment?

My experience with barclaycard is that if I make an overpayment before the DD comes out, this amount is deducted from the DD total so isn't actually an overpayment. So I always wait until the day my DD leaves my bank account if I want to make an additional payment.
  • Thanks. I finally managed to find the answer on bc website.
