In debt, need help badly

  • I came on here for advice not abuse! I'm not some benefit sponger, sitting on my !!!! wanting money handed to me! I worked at Sainsburys for 8yrs & when I could no longer work nights there was no available positions on days. I applied to everywhere including Asda & even though I had supermarket background didn't even get an interview. I now scrub toilets for a living. I work from 8am until 2-3pm only contracted 20hrs a month as that's all they can give but been able to do some overtime as its busy.

I then go home and work on my business. The only other thing is to get an evening/night job again & that's what got me in this state to begin with. I have a HND in Textiles/Fashion & yet it's got me nowhere!

I'm not asking for hand outs I'm asking for advice. I've tried loans & can't get any due to not working in current job long enough!

It's really refreshing to hear your story (if that sound's right). You are clearly trying to work yourself free and on this occasion the usual shot and shell from the Loan forum's site artillery is unjustified. Again, work together with your partner, and all the best.

I think the first thing to do is, as suggested, set out a statement of affairs and post the results here for subsequent comment.
    You can find one here:
    http://www.stoozing.com/msoc/soacalc.php
The purpose of the exercise is to set out your incomings, your outgoings, your assets and your liabilities. It is not difficult to complete it but you have to be honest and not hide things as you have come here seeking advice and sometimes you have to make sacrifices to get to where you want to be.

I also have to go along with the comment that, when you are a couple, such problems are jointly-owned and that is part and parcel of being within a relationship. I trust that you are not hiding things from your partner.

You will find that, apart from the occasional negative comment, which you get on all sorts of forums, most people here are very keen to offer advice with many having been in exactly the same position as yourself at some point but have since recovered from it. They are the ones from whom you will get the best advice.

One last thing, at this point, please don't make things worse by going mad at christmas. If you can't afford to buy presents, be honest and say that you are having some financial difficulties and need to get things on an even keel. Folks will appreciate your honesty rather than accept a present from you, the cost of which sent you further into debt. For those that still want to buy you something, don't be too embarrassed to ask for cash instead. It won't cost them any more. Use any such cash to reduce the debts straight away.

I wish you all the very best !

As others have said, post an SOA for useful advice.

The last thing you need is a loan, you will not borrow your way out of debt.

If you're happy to do the SOA and post it on this thread, or post on here to say where it is, then those of us who've been following this thread can offer some more advice.

Its not my boyfriends responsibility so pay off my debt. Plus his Dad has already helped us with a months rent. At 28 I shouldn't have to ask parents for help :/

Yes I'm aware its your debt but what I was getting at is if he were to help you pay soem of it off or all of it the debtis kept between the 2 of you and you can pay something each month the 2 of you can agree on but its your choice
I came on here for advice not abuse!

What abuse have you received ? Please tell.

I then go home and work on my business. Consider stopping this and look for another part time job but leave it till after xmas.

The only other thing is to get an evening/night job again & that's what got me in this state to begin with. I have a HND in Textiles/Fashion & yet it's got me nowhere!

Do you have experience in Textiles/Fashion ?

If not then the experience will be whats not getting you very far.

I'm not asking for hand outs I'm asking for advice

I think what was being got at was look at what if any benefits you can apply for.

If you are prepared to do something like cleaning, which is really hard work so congrats to you, how about checking out the jobs at your local council? They quite often advertise for cleaners where I live. And only want experienced cleaners. The hours tend not to eb very long, but an extra ten hours a week may be all you need to keep the wolf from the door.

I would suggest working tax credits, but you may not be working enough hours to qualify. Having said that, if your business is registered with HMRC and you work a couple of days a week at it, then you will likely be over the hours threshold and may qaulify for working tax credit. It's not very much though.
  • Could you move back in with parents? Save some on the rent, pay off your debts and then start afresh.

Sometimes it takes a step back to make two forward.

Look for the positives in your situation - you're young, you have no children and the ties that they bring. Consider looking for work anywhere in the EU you can still achieve anything.
  • Thank you for your kind words. I get very annoyed when people think I'm a spunger. It's true I do not want another loan really to get out of debt. I have decided to give up my business and look for another part-time job to top up my earnings.

Cleaning jobs are easy to come by as people don't want to do them but the hours are few. I've found another thread about getting out of debt by finding 100 ways to earn and it's really inspired me :D
