Laptop Wireless not connecting

Hi, I have a 10 year old Acer Travelmate that I only use in the winter so that I can sit in the warm but now I have a connection problem.

Everything in control panel is OK so it should work, my connection IS shown in the list, but the little monitor in the system tray has a red cross on it so it just won't connect to the internet.

I can only think because it has not been used for some time that the Drivers need updating.

Could you please tell me where best to download them from, I say them, because if the wireless driver needs updating I would think other things to as well or could there be another reason for it not connecting.

Thanking you Drinda

Hi Closed, I have checked internet connection and it say's enabled, also looked in device manager and it is OK, I have cross checked with my PC [not wireless ] and all details Lan and Wireless match, but they do not match details that I wrote down a year ago I think all the updates have changed things.

Please could you tell me where to view my password is it in internet accounts ? I am an oldie [75] I think I am getting forgetful.

    Thanks A LOT Drinda.

    Which operating system?

Go to the start button and find Contol Panel.

Find "Network Connections" and select your wireless network. Double click.

Select "wireless properties". Select the Security tab.

Hi Johnmc, It is EP I have done as you say everything looks OK, but the prefered network box is blank, I am pretty sure it was always like that.
    Thanking you Drinda.
  • Which router channel are you using if it's 12 or 13 it will need (probably) to change to 11 or less.
