Are HFC stalling for time?

I've written to HFC, and given full details of loans, complete with PPI. They have written back to me, stating that they cannot locate any account details from my information provided, due to "Details of any account which has been closed over six years will no longer be held on our system". At this stage, I'm reluctant to approach a "no win no fee" team to help me. Has anyone else experienced similar response, and what should the next step be for me?

The FSA recommendation on document retention is 6 years, which is why they have stated this.

Note, that it is only a recommendation, companies do not need to even adhere to this although most do (sensibly in the FSA eyes)

Unless you have your own documentation, showing that a] you had PPI and b] statements to prove you paid it in full, there is nothing you can do.

You can't employ a claims firms either, because you can only complain once, and even if you could employ them, they can't magic documents out of thin air.

I think the OP says he has submitted details of the PPI to the lender already - he would simply need to make the complaint with that evidence.

Actually, it is six years from the sale of the contract, not the end of the loan it covers.

    Loan details aren't statements though.
You can pay a loan off early and not pay [so much] PPI.
