Cat urinating on rugs

Hi guys, hopefully you can help. I've got a new persian cat that I've had for a month or so, and while things seem to be going along just fine and us getting along great together, she's had a few days where she's not been using the litter tray and has taken to peeing on the lounge and bedroom rugs.

She has not been spayed and at 16 moths old, I wonder whether there would be a benefit in getting her 'done'. She does seem to be quite vocal for a persian and speaks an awful lot! I wondered if that was her in season, and whether the best thing to do would be to get the spaying done? Over the weekend she has been really vocal and chirping away all the weekend, but on those two days, she's peed outwith the litter tray. In cleaning up one of those, I discovered that she'd peed elsewhere too.

I use clumping litter, and scoop out the tray as soon as she's used it. The tray itself is the largest I can get (being a persian, she's a big cat!), and it's clean, so I don't think it's a hygiene issue. Today she's pooed in the tray, yet peed on the rug a few hours later.

When I found the last lot of pee, I was in tears as I do love her and she's such an endearing little personality, but if this doesn't get better, then I'm not quite sure what to do next :(

I use a urine neutraliser and the feliway spray in the area she has urinated so far to try and dissuade her from doing it.

Would welcome ANY suggestions to try and help me solve this.

This is what I would do:
    1. Have her spayed.
    2. Take her to the vets for a quick check-up
    3. Investigate with different types of litter. She might not like the feel of your current litter.

I really hope that you are not planning on getting rid of her because she is peeing out of the box. It's not nice I know but there is often a very good reason behind it. You just need to find out what it is and, with patience, you will.

I'm hopeful that the spaying will make a difference and give the vet a chance to look at her and see if there's any other problems that might be causing it. She does seem in really good heath and I'm sure it's more of a behavioural thing than a medical issue. She's got a wonderful nature, very friendly and great fun, but I do wonder if it's related to her being a 'bit flighty' and in season at the moment. My last cat was neutered before I got her, so I've not had any experience of horny wee things!

Sad to say, it has crossed my mind that if we can't find a solution, I might not have any option but to find a new home for her - as maybe she's not as settled with me as she appears. I'm determined that won't happen though as there must be something I can do. I think that's where the tears have come in as I don't really know what to do and don't want to think that I'm failing her in some way :(

I've moved her food to the area where she's been peeing as a few other websites recommended that to help deter her. Another one was to put tinfoil down as the noise and feel of it would put her off. I did have another cat who died a few months back and I wonder if the scent from the last cat may be an issue?
