Saving pennies... is it just me?

I like to save my loose change, in the last two months I've saved E78.34 (I'm living in france atm) or £63 in loose change (which will be going into my ISA) .
Is it just me or do other people do this too? If so, how much have you saved?

yep i do this too, it normally add's up to about £40-50 a year, but it all counts.0

We have a collecting box in the kitchen, we put all our small change in (i.e one two or five pences) a nice lady collects it every two months and the funds go to the upkeep of the small village church, it's not just us about half the villagers do the same.
FWIW I don't go to church and am not at all religious but I like the architecture and if we don't help they will poss close the church.
Larger change I collect and use for car parking and stuff.0 -
I'm awful at using change. So much easier to get a note out of the wallet. My wife is the total opposite. She will spend a minute at the front of the queue sifting through her purse to not only pay the right money but use the most coins doing so
I fly frequently with Easyjet and they never have change for inflight drinks so I try to be stocked for a flight from the tray in the kitchen where I leave it all.
But now 'student of £' you've got me thinking. Years ago it was tanners (6d) in a dimple whisky jar. I'm going to sort something similar for those 1p, 5p and 20ps today :beer:I believe past performance is a good guide to future performance :beer:0 -
It amazes me how quickly it can add up, 20p will barely buy you anything, 100 X 20p is £20. It's true about taking care of the pennies!0

We do this, well i do, I don't think the wife puts anything in though!
Have 3 pots now, one for coppers, one for 5p's and another which I put 10p's, 20p's and £2 coins. In some ways I can be a bit tight :rotfl: and I know roughly whats in the third post for larger coins so as soon as I think there's enough of one or more denomination I empty, bag it up, pay into the bank then transfer elsewhere to start earning interest.0 -
I usually throw any spare change into a tin at then end of every day (only exception would be if I'd more than £5 in pound coins. I'd keep £5 out and put the rest in the tin)
I lodge my 'shrapnel' in the bank once a month (usually about a week before payday when it's getting tight) and it's generally around £60ish mark
BUT
Last month was £103 and October was £111 :j
The money is all part of my budget and it might seem that I'm short on money some weeks, but by the end of the month I've maybe another weeks budget sitting. Nice to take the stress off before payday too!Wealth is what you're left with when all your money runs out0 -
I do this too! Anything 50p and under goes in the pot, then once every couple of months I put it in the machine in the local Natwest. Normally ends up being £40 odd - feels like free money!Saving in 2013 (#98): £270/£30000

I use pennies to pay for the Dartfort crossing as a kind of protest (specially since it's now £2 each way). I do have to wait for someone to count all the coins, but I do that with a grin!0

Working on the cabs years ago I used to empty excess change from my dosh bag every weekend. Paid it in to my building society account once a month and each Summer I had enough to pay for my whole holiday (car ferry, fuel and spending money).
Felt like a free trip0 -

LOL watch out though, I think pennies are only legal tender up to 20p (meaning if somebody does not wish to accept them in a transaction, there is no legal requirement for them to do so). So keep a £2 coin handy just in case a Jobsworth who knows the law tries to get his own back on you!'Never keep up with Joneses. Drag them down to your level. It's cheaper.' Quentin Crisp0
