.....The OP..has taken the trouble to find something out by asking questions. There are no stupid questions....
    Jonno,
As you can see from the arrogant responses from some here though, there are such things as stupid answers.

Digger talking about his own responses again. ;)
I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.

That'll be a matter of opinion. What they've all done that yours hasn't is taken the trouble to venture an opinion on the substance of the OP's question.

Perhaps you have a view on why people are advising investment in property, perhaps not. From your comments hare there isn't a way we could tell.

I'm guessing that you disagree with some of the things that have been said. If such is the case it is polite to address the arguments rather than just call them stupid. You see, if you don't, the kind of people who advance arguments and disagree with one another and enjoy a bit of intellectual to-and-fro (it's a message board, there are no prizes) will just assume you don't have arguments to advance.

The OP invited opinions, do you have one? Other contributors have submitted theirs and there hasn't been any laughter or hoots of derision. Care to risk yours?

People suggest investing in property for those who are disinclined to invest in stock market based equities.

Even in periods where the housing market is falling, people need to live somewhere. So they pay rent. And rental yields (if you buy wisely and generally on lower priced properties in areas where there are not many owner occupiers) you can get yields of 6-10%- even yields of over 10% if you buy very wisely or do a refurb on an older property. Which you cannot get from cash these days.

But I would not advise doing this unless you know property well.

Some people have an irrational fear of equities but not property.
