my poor wee doggy.....

my wee old man (12yrs old) lost all interest 10days ago....
not interested in eatin, walking, and what was going on around him.

Took him to the vets.... xrays and bloods taken...

Diagnosed as being anemic , an infection, and an enlarged spleen.

Went back Wednesday, spleen seems to have reduced.... and iron tablets and anti inflammatories continued for another 2 weeks....

however this morning i have noticed all 4 legs are swollen.... feeling them i think their is water retention goin on!!

poor wee man, back to the vets....

is water retention common in dogs?

My old dog did have fluid retention...similar symptoms to your dog's really.

Everyone said he was piling weight on but he wasn't eating a thing.

Turned out to be cancer with tumours on his spleen and kidney among other areas.

It needs to be sorted out soon as possible for the dog's sake.

    I do hope he's ok.

Previous mutt used to be on tablets for water retention. The same ones as my grandmother, oddly enough. Wasn't a sign of anything sinister though, just old age kicking in.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

He is back to his old self after last weekend.
The only thing he wont now do is jump onto the sofa or bed.

The Vet confirmed from the xrays and bloods no cancer.

    He is also eating again

My dog has just had an infection and stopped eating. My vet said to try to get him to have Complan and beaten eggs to build him up again.

Swollen limbs can be a sign of low blood protein (albumin) levels, which can occur with anaemia, so it's good you're taking him back to the Vet for a check over. They may want to run repeat bloods. There is always an underlying reason for the fluid retention, so it always needs investigating.
Hope your dog continues to improve and the swollen legs are easily sorted.

:o I have personal experience of it with my whippet. Her anaemia was caused by an autoimmune condition, so treatment has been more involved than for a standard anaemia. She's doing well now, but it took us a little while to get on top of the low albumin levels.
Hope your dog is soon feeling well again.

His infection and spleen are improving, they have put him onto steriods and ditched the loxicum.

The swelling has reduced somewhat, however he had an uncontrollable accident this morning.. now the vet thinks issues with liver kidneys....

Another blood test next week.... see how the meds work this week.
