Laptop Problem

When i boot up the lapotp it is slow and unresponsive and freezes on the google page. What reports would i need to post in order for somebody to advise what the problem may be. Toshiba satellite C660D-1C6 this is a basic laptop for internet browsing and basic problems.

On opening windows task manager it states that there are 64 tasks running and physical memory is a 34%.
Physical memory
total 2667
cashed cached 1703
available 1732
free 90

Kernel memory
paged 199
non paged 72
commit 1373/5333

I would be grateful if someone could advise what i could do to help improve the performance.

on a well specced machine, backing up data and reinstalling windows is often the fastest solution

uninstall any toolbars, reset IE to defaults under tools, internet options, advanced, scan with malwarebytes, tdsskiller, and post a hijackthis log

Thanks for your reply. I have done what you suggested and malwarebytes and tdss didn't find anything malicious.

I also ran a hijackthis log but it wouldn't allow notepad to open. (denied write access to hosts file).

I have however discovered the main problem seems to be a conflict within Internet Explorer. It completely stalls on opening and never loads anything other than the main google page but the internet is perfect with Google Chrome.

The laptop is only used for browsing so grateful if you could advise if I should be only using Chrome or should this be removed and Internet Explorer used - this was still the case after reset to defaults as you said.

Thanks again for your reply and hope you can suggest wwhat further steps should be taken.
