Setting up a "Disability Trust" for ASD son

I need a will and possibly think a Disability Trust for Autistic Spectrum Disorder son is the way to go.
Any lawyers out there who have ASD children? What have you done?
I am in the initial stages of gathering information for my will. I have contacted the National Autistic Society and specialist solicitor of course.
This has been said" This is a type of discretionary trust that can be set up for a person who is disabled (according to the definition outlined by the government). As well as the benefits already mentioned under discretionary trusts, the benefit of a disability trust is that it is not taxed in the same way as other trusts. Whereas other trusts are affected by periodic taxes which happen every 10 years or so, taxing a trust for 6% of the total amount at that time, those charges don't apply to a disability trust."
There are two siblings (in total) and three cousins.
What do you think? What are the pros and cons of a "Disability Trust"?

hiya, my mum has set up a disability trust for me. i have two sisters, my mums estate will be divided equally 3 ways. both sisters get their third as a lump sum, but mine goes straight into a trust.
the solicitor who set it up is the first trustee, my two sisters are also trustees.
the trust will be payable by requested amounts for holidays, household repairs and home improvements, and for medical equipment.
each time i request money there is a fee of 100 pounds charged to the account for admin costs of the solicitor so i have been advised to eg apply for funds for a holiday and any household maintenance jobs to be funded together to only attract one fee.
i am of full mental capacity, my disability is a progressive one and i have had to cease working. this was advised otherwise it would have all gone on living expenses until i was left with nothing again, mum wants to ensure i can have anything i need after she has gone. i was advised by the solicitor to make a will at the same time as the trust fund was set up. i have no dependants or partner, so as well as my own estate any unspent monies from the trust will be distributed between my two nephews and my neice on my death. this ensures all mums money remains within the family rather than elsewhere.
hope this is helpful to you.0 -
