House & pet sitters and where to find them?

  • Hi there.

I recommend that you go through an agency - you will have to pay for the service, but the sitter/s will be totally referenced, police checked, and insured. You do not know who you will be getting with a free sitter (unless they have references etc).

There are many agencies around. Where in the country are you?

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton
  • Just wondering how you got on?
We are looking to go away later in the year. My partner does dog home boarding and dog walking, so normally her services are being called on.... this time its the other way around and as we have sheep, horses, chickens and cats getting someone reliable is causing us a few issues. Normally she is the person locally that everyone recommends !

We looked at trustedhousesitters but have not posted an advert yet.... should we...
    Thanks

As I used to live nearby, I knew people who worked for, and used these:

I don't have a clue these days about costs, but they do look after animals.
You deal directly with the agency - no posting details where others can read them! Of course, they are insured.

Most people I know offer the house as a sort of holiday break for family members who live elsewhere, but I guess that's not an option or you would have organised it.

    Hi. Thanks for the reply.
As its the winter and the going is a bit difficult I can't really ask the folks as they are getting on a bit. No problem in the 'summer'....if that is what we can call it with all the terrible weather that we had!
