Thanks for your help, OneADay, but my Vista PC refuses to believe that the Xtra is connected, so the firmware won't install....
Ho hum, back to the drawing board...
That sounds like you dont have the drivers installed.
The drivers are for the zen which allows it to connect to windows.
The firmware which you have mentioned (and I have assumed) is the firmware for the internal zen software ?
If you do not have the drivers - then you should be able to download from creative web site - its not the easiest site to find drivers but they are there. Alternatively post your model details here and someone could find them.
The link to opendrivers I posted earlier shows drivers for the zen (which hopefully are the same as those from creative and the latest).
Best to check the creative web site first.0 -
Success!
A trawl through some other (more specialised) forums showed an awful lot of other people with the same trouble.
I ended up borrowing an XP PC, reloading all the software to get the Xtra recognised, downloading all the music and the firmware update (which makes the Xtra a universal WMA recognised device), swapping back to Vista to check it worked (yay!), swapping back to XP and reloading all the music and I am now finally back on Vista, synchronising the files.
Boy oh boy oh boy.....
Thanks for all your help, folks :T0 -
Not got chance to search more thoroughly, but have used this forum before now with some good results, not Vista related -

The only reason I keep smiling is so that people wonder what I've been up to !!0 -
