Hi newbie here:)
Long post sorry.
Just wanted some advice and help with my electric bill. I know the prices have gone up but my electric bill seem ridiculous.
I have a 3 bed end terrace with gas central heating gas hob and cook with electric and power shower.
I work part time so not in till evening on Monday to Wednesday. Thursday to Sunday varies. I have two young children.
I am very conscious of what electric we use so everything is turned off when we leave the house or go to bed the only thing which is left on is the fridge and freezer lol:D o don't leave lights on only when I use them. Washing machine aa rated on approx 5 times a week
I have an old meb meter which has revolving numbers and a disc which turns round. Hope that makes sence.
Npower sent me a huge bill over the summer of 800 for the electric which was a 5 monthly bill.
I called to query my meter readings and gave them my meter reading. She also asked for my meter serial number and when I gave her this she questioned it and told me it was wrong like I should of had a new meter.
My questions are
Is my meter correct as I seem to use a lot in a day. I have clocked meter over a few purse and already used 40 kw.
Should I be working my meter readings different with this meter
What's the average daily kw you use
Should npower be working my usage differently if I'm on this meter.
Many thanks for your help

First things first, before you do anything else take a photograph of your meter.
Regarding the type of meter, do the numbers "revolve" or is it a clock face type meter where the numbered dials are fixed and the pointers revolve?
Answer that for more meaningful advice.0 -
If you have a "dial " meter, 6 little revolving dials, they are notorious for getting mis-read. when the pointer is directly on a border is the danger time for meter read mess ups. Look to the dial to the right as a check on the correct number. if that dials pointer is before the zero, its the lower figure, after the zero it is the higher. Its the first two dials, the 10,000 kwh and 1000kwh, where you will see a big bill mess up if they are mis read0

Average KW use for 2 adults around 12UPD for a family more 14-16UPD0

It could be a standard meter, just with the rotating disk below it not very commoun these days but read like normal meters. I doubt the c/service person could state it shouldnt be there unless its saying the certification is out of date.Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

This time of year our average use is 8.5 units (not sure what they are) per day. We're both out working normal office hours and have gas heating, gas heated shower and gas oven. Electricity for everything else.0

Your meter sounds like mine - The meters consumption is registered on small revolving drums, (rather like a car mileometer), and at the bottom is a spinning horizontal disk with a black mark that shows how fast the disk is revolving.
The Cust. Service comment about the meter is worrying - Check that the Meter No listed on the bill, is the same as that on the actual meter Being billed for entirely the wrong meter is not unkown
Your consumption is certainly high - Do a rough check on the meter's accuracy by turning off everything, the meter should stop altogether.
Then plug in an Electric Fire/Fan heater that is rated at 1000 or 2000 watts and run it for an hour, the meter should record exactly 1 or 2 units used respectively
If the meter does not stop with everything off , it's possible that you have a Wiring or Appliance fault and should call in a local Sparks0 -
Who is this clown called Adam supposedly the official representative from Npower? Has anybody had a reply from him? This Adam person posted exactly the same response to a query from me about Npower increasing my electricity bill by 40%. He said he would look into it if I advised my account no. I did so but never heard from "Adam" again. Does "Adam" even exist or is he some sort of automated Npower robot? Npower are little short of useless. You can only send them an e-mail via their online service. When they reply, that is if they ever reply, you have to respond again via their website. If you reply directly to their e-mail it gets returned straight away saying something like: "The email you've attempted to send has not been delivered as this email address is a "no-reply" address." Oh and I almost forgot, their website is constantly going down, no doubt swamped by all the complaints about their appalling customer service.0

Further thought.......
You've posted about your Gas C.heating, but what type of boiler powers it ?
If as I assumed, you have a Combi boiler that delivers Hot Water on demand, then follow my post #8 - However if you have an 'Open Vented' system with a water tank in the loft and a Hot Water storage cylinder, the chances are that the HW cylinder is fitted with an Immersion Heater - If this has been left on 24/7 it could account for the Elec bill0 -

Hi back_against_the_wall,
I'm most definitely human!
Did you send your details to the forumresponse@npower.com email address, as requested?
If you want to pop over the details, then I can get this looked into for you.
Many thanks,
