Have got a panasonic dvd recorder, i use dvd ram discs in it mostly, i know they aren't generally playable in stand alone dvd players or dvd rom drives, but is there any way to make them compatable, ie a program or anything like that.
i often record stuff off the tv which i want to watch when i'm away but of course it doesnt work in my other player, or the pc
just a thought...

Basically the answer is no. It's not a software issue that causes the discs not to be read, but the fact that the disc drive wont read that type of disc.
It's a problem at the moment that there are so many different types of disc and film formats out there. Older DVD players generally struggle to play most of the different types out there. It's something to keep in mind when buying a new player nowadays. I had to buy a new DVD player yesterday purely because my perfectly good but older player wouldn't play most of the films I've got on my computer. I had to make sure that the new player supported all the formats and disc types that I need. How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

You would have to get a DVD-RAM compatible DVD-ROM (not rewriter) drive for your PC. An LG one is about £17-18.
Then you can use software such as TMPGenc Dvd Author to extract the video, and then burn it onto DVD-R or RW (with a DVD-rewriter)
Lots of faff though.0
