I'm thinking of investing in a new computer with windows 8 but a bit scared
is it easy to use , I'm assuming theres a bit of difference between windows vista and windows 8 ??
also wondering if my router, printer and things will still work
what about microsoft works I have the disc to install it ??
and what about Norton , my norton runs out in April will I just be able to download it from my account as I always renew online ?
would appreciate any helpful advice

is this because of your audio problem?
who "fixed" your pc, and what did they do?

avast is free.
you'll have to google to find out if your hardware has W8 drivers.
routers don't need drivers.!!

As for helpful advice I would buy a W7 PC and upgrade to 8 later (but download it now whilst it's Free/Cheap) and create recovery disks first before you use it in anger.I'm thinking of investing in a new computer with windows 8 but a bit scared

Yes windows 7 came in between and it was much better than Vista

Have a play on a Windows 8 machine in a shop first - I think the new interface is pants.0

Unless you have a touch screen PC, avoid Windows 8 like the plague.
Having had to 'Refresh' my PC thats running Win 8, I also believe it to be unstable.
Norton2013 seems to have problems on Win 8, don't ever renew Norton online, by a new one from the likes of Amazon, and dn't pay more than £15 for a 3PC licence. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -

thanks for the advice especially about Norton - so Avast doesn't work well with windows 8 ?? what are my other options ??0

windows defender and windows firewall is perfectly fine and it comes with windows 8 ,
been running win 8 from day one its perfectly fine no instability problems ,
it just a matter of getting used to different clicks in different places and having a stable pc to start with, you tend to find out that if an operating system is unstable, after upgrading an old on, it's usually down to a problem that was there to start with and the user did not know aboutthere or their, one day i might us the right one ,until then tuff0 -
been reading all about windows 8 and getting pretty scared about the possible big change , i bought an external hard drive earlier in the year so i didn't lose photos etc if my computer went wrong which it did will that still work on a new windows 8 computer ??
and I do all my work on microsoft works se9 will that install on the new computer - I'd like to stick with what I know if possible0 -
The change isn't that bad, you can still change to the desktop mode at the click of a button which changes it back to a Windows 7 like interface bar the missing start button (which you can add back in via third party software) and you just need to learn to shutdown using a command at the right of the screen instead. Some of it is a bit odd if you try to find it yourself but by far the easiest way is just to read through a basic guide as the steps aren't difficult, just a bit different.
Your external drive should work fine with Windows 8, I don't know about Microsoft Works - if it was ok with Windows 7 it should be fine with Windows 8.

I'm going from windows vista to windows 8 so might be a bit of a shock to the system lol I organise all my different bits and pieces into different folders on the desktop at the moment can you still do that with windows 8 but where do you put them as the desktop bit is full of tiles ???0
