Lloyds TSB CC (not very) late payment

My credit card payment was due yesterday (Fri 30 Nov) - I forgot, and made my payment this morning (Sat 1 Dec).

For quite a while my finances were a mess, and I made numerous late payments - I imagine my credit history/score is pretty horrendous.

However I've been doing the right thing for the past nine months or so, making all my payments on time, so I'm just a little concerned that this (not very) late payment might mess it all up. Is it worth calling them up at all and saying something?

Thanks for any constructive comments.

(p.s. I know I shouldn't have left making the payment until the last day I could before the deadline, it's just that juggling things around has been a bit complicated lately.)

I'd expect it to show up dated the 3rd and a late payment fee shown on your account.

You'll probably get the late payment fee - so a £12 hit. Certainly worth a call - they might refund it as a goodwill gesture. If the payment would have cleared the balance in full, then you'll lose out on the interest free period so the hit will be greater. If you're keen you could also ask for this to be refunded - perhaps wait until the statement is generated.

I wouldn't worry about the "black mark" issue. The odd late payment soon fades in importance. In fact, it might not have been reported at all depending on the reporting cycle. More tricky to get it reversed if it has as it's a record of fact.

I would give a ring and ask about the late payment fee. Maybe say you were away - but I'm sure they have heard it all before so you might not be successful. Worth a try though.

Have you thought about setting up a direct debit for the minumum amount? You can always make further payments each month but at least you won't have a missed payment.
  • If you made a internet banking payments, it may show on the available funds (if you access the LTSB internet banking online- you have to log in again to refresh it)

The balance may update either at midnight or on Monday/Tuesday.

Are you able to set up a direct debit? Just in case the next payment falls on the weekend or around the Christmas so that they will call for the payment the next working day
