Dont understand how apparently the "House" was only worth about £55,000.

Limited equity, poor area of the country, ...
  • It's not "interesting". It's fraud.

I didn't say it wasn't fraud, did I, why are you digging at me, I wasn't condoning the actions at all, I just find human nature interesting as to the lengths people will go to, to try to beat the system, so please do have a go at me.

You quite clearly implied that this was the course of action the OP should take.

  •:eek::eek: I'm in shock! I live in Essex, within the M25 circle, and I never realised there was property in the UK so cheap.

It's one of the most deprived areas in the country, people don't realise how bad it can be.

It's not typical of all of the North East though, but it is an area that the govt seems to have forgotten about.

Try watching that property under the hammer program on BBC1 sometime - they often have houses in poorer areas on there with a guide price of £5-£15k. Yes they may need doing up, but often there are grants available to get things back to right side up.

So what if I did, is this not a open forum where people can and do have freedom of speech and opinion. I find it very sad that some people struggle to see anything other than black and white in their lives. How boring!

So not only has she deprived a person from getting a council property, seeing as she already had a property, Now she wants the taxpayer to fund her council house while she sets her children up with a nice little sum....Lovely.

MIL may possibly have been classified as a 'vulnerable older person' if she couldn't cope with her own house and needed something more suitable. IMHO the council then have a duty to help her. See my post of 2nd December above in which I stated that I know people who've done this i.e. sold their previous residence and moved into sheltered accommodation run by the council. What I don't know is anything at all to do with their personal finances, what they did with the money. They don't seem to be poor, are able to go on holiday etc, and I believe that they do have rent to pay.
