This will sound like a really stupid question to most people but I was just wondering about an Xbox, someone I know is wanting to buy one and I was wondering how it connects to the TV - ie. what sort of wires. The only TV they have is an oldish one that doesnt have scart sockets

The old xbox or the 360? The original came with composite cable and scart adaptor, 360 comes with composite/component hybrid. If the tv has a yellow, red and white sockets at the back then it will take composite.

    Hi,

For the original xbox, you can get a cable that will replace the Red White Yellow lead and allow it to plug into the aerial socket...so would work for any TV.(including black and white!).

don't know if it's the same for the 360 though..

    like this...

I doubt that a TV that doesnt have scart sockets will have a composite input as they usually work in conjuntion with scart sockets.

They would need to buy an RF modulation box like these connect their xbox to it then tune their TV in to the RF box just like we used to do with video recorders on channel 0 remember that LOL. rather than buying the official one from microsoft the ones in that link will allow them to connect anything like freeview boxes, dvd plays anything that has composite out you can convert scart to composite also with the right cable.

The quality usually ends up crap but it is the only way personally I would buy a new TV they can now be bought for about £150 for somthing like a 28" or 32".
