Bit like me I guess, should I resist? Perhaps in time Aldi's will do one as a special. Then again I only started using a slow cooker approx 7 months ago...all those wasted years. I'm sure even Mum would've enjoyed what I make in one these days..."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

My Kuhn Rikon pressure cooker is my most used ever kitchen item. I have tried some others but didn't like how they operated, one was from Ikea, and the other from Asda, I took them both back.
The Kuhn Rikon one is perfect and it gets used a lot. Last year I did christmas dinner in it, all prepped the night before.
Turkey crown, in, cooked, sliced and placed in a tray of gravy ready for the next day.
Potatoes par boiled and prepped ready to be roasted the next day.
Ham in coke, as above, roasted it off in the oven with some sugar and treacle to coat it.
Love my pressure cooker. Report back if you get one, there really should be a up to date pressure cooker thread here really.DFW Nerd 267. DEBT FREE 11.06.08

I mentioned to DH that I was thinking of getting one and when he asked me what I could/would cook in it I had no idea!
Can you guys tell me what sort of meals you cook apart from curry, stew etc?0 -
i bought a Prestige one from Asda about 3 weeks ago for £15 and think it is brilliant. I use mine to make soups as you dont have to soak pulses any more and also to make stew and meat curries/dhals0

I have both and use them equally for different things.
I think gammon is much nicer in the pc than the slow cooker, as is chicken, leek and potato soup is ready in 10 minutes and beans and chickpeas are great processed in the pc then frozen ready to use.
The only thing I don't like done in the pc is risotto, doesn't turn out that well for some reason.0 -
Oh dear, now I see they have electric ones too!0

Well tonight we're having game pie for dinner, and I cooked the pie filling in the pressure cooker. It took about twenty minutes, but if I'd done it in a normal pan I'd probably have been simmering it for two hours. Although I suppose that still counts as stew really.
Another favourite is rice pudding, which takes no time at all. I don't like it done in the oven as I don't like the skin that forms (although I realise I'm the only person in the world who doesn't like the skin on rice pudding). It's fab for steamed puddings too.
Someone posted above that they don't like risotto in the PC and I have to admit I've never tried it but given that it only takes 20 minutes anyway I don't really see the point. It would also be no use for things like pasta, which takes only a short time anyway, or fish which would be far too easy to overcook.0 -

That was the first one I saw and it was on sale at half price earlier in the year is a chain of shops in the North of the UK but I think it cost around £50. It looked like a slow cooker or microwave and was programmable."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson
