Lights blown.. lost power :(
Not sure if this is the correct forum but i have a problem.
I switched on a light and i heard it go pop, it tripped all upstairs lights, everything else works fine just not the lights.. i think this is standard procedure?
I removed the broken bulb.
I have an old fuse box with no switches you need to replace the fuse, which i have done.. still nothing.
I tried a second new fuse, still nothing.
My knowledge of this comes to an end here unfortunately, i've only been in the house 2 month and don't know what to do..
I'm hoping it's something stupid like bad fuses or it needing to be reset or something..

i replaced the fuse, assuming that was the problem.
the lights are still not working after the fuse replacement
bedroom bulb popped, tripped all upstairs lights, removed offending bulb, worked out which fuse related to the lights, replaced the fuse, still no power.
Everything else still works (up/down sockets, boiler, cooker, downstairs lights, etc..)0 -
Have you put the right fuse wire in?
Only we had a new heater blow our circuit and on replacing the fuse it was apparent that a 15 amp had been in a 30 amp for years.0 -
Was the fuse broken?
If not I'd get a sparky in.0 -

I just took the fuse down to the electrical place and they gave me exact replacements, i tried 2 of them and neither worked.
it's a 15A
not sure if thats right or wrong, like i say i've only been here 2 months, had no problems up until this time
this isn't really my forte0 -
If it the old system the lighting fuse has a white spot on it, and will say 5 amp, is this what you replaced/ there are normally 2, one for upstairs, one for downstairs. If its only the one bulb not working, the fitting could be faulty and will keep blowing the fuse.
Try this- with power off, unscrew the ceiling fitting, disconnect the wires that go to the bulb holder, 3 wires, put in a 3rd fuse then put power back on. If still no power to lights, then the fitting is ok.
MY OH is telling me this, as its his elimination process.0 -
Are you checking the right fuse?I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0

I've just noticed a fuse box upstairs it's dropped just below the ceiling above the bathroom door... i wonder if this has anything to do with it?
this holds one of those standard fuses you see in plugs... going to check it out now.
It's about the size of a plug socket.0 -
where do you live?0
