I too have had problems with debitas. I received a phonecall from them one evening, demanding instant payment of 1700.00. The reason? when I had called them to make a payment, a computer glitch which they acknowledged came from their system crashing meant that the payment didn't go through. they insisted that this meant that I had broken my agreement, when I had no idea about their "glitch". their representative could not have been more rude, intimadating or unhelpful. When I challenged him about the facts, he then accused me of being rude to him! I can assure everyone here that was not the case, I think this is a fall back position for poorly trained staff when intimidation and inaccurate information fails to work for them. what concerned me more however was the fact that I have always declined to give them a contact number after being pursued relentlessly at all hours (even on the day of my grandmothers funeral when I told them that I was on my way to a funeral, the stupid ***** persisted in pressing for an answer as to when I would be paying!!), I have no idea which methods they use to obtain info and they refused to say or to remove number from the record i would be very interested to know if there is anyone looking into the practices of this particular group. i'd be more than happy to add my experiences with them to the list.0

debitas sure dont like us do they tbh they called me today saying due to I breaking my repayment plan and that it has been broken many times in the past due to general forgetfulness that they would pass over the debt of £255 to another agency for court dealings and or bailifs etc
its not that i forgot on purpose but having debts with barclaycard and barclays bank as well its easy to not remember what ones have been paid and what havent , also being that i am on benefits and they both knew this fact that a card was so easily issued or given to me
with having to cope with a sick disabled wife and household chores so to speak also i find i cant cope with it all BUT try tell that to debitas it goes in one ear and out the other in the end i told her on the phone to go ahead there is nothing i can do to pay back the money now and being that no bank will let me open an account basic account like where i could set up standing orders life gets that little bit more difficult.
i have made an appointment to speak to someone at the local CAB office in november whjere i hope to seek some help as people tell me the situation i am in being not of fully understanding mind [mentle health issues] thje cards should of never been given and the courts would see this too?
my other dealings with barclaycard and barclays bank have been ok
regal credit control have been pleasent just wish debitas was like this OH no not a chance
will see what happens have read up about balifts told to just ignore em they cant force there way in0 -
I've been dealing with Debitas since August. I foolishly agreed to repay £75 per month for six months, and only afterwards googled them and found these forums.
That six month period is coming to an end -- when it comes to a new repayment schedule, am I now obliged to match the previous payments?
They were killing me. Can I now offer a smaller amount?0 -
not at all send them an income/expenditure sheet and only pay what you can realistically afford nothing more.0

Thank you; the advice helps a great deal.0

If you are dealing directly with Debitas they probably think that you are unaware of your rights and will use this assumed fact to try and 'bully' you into making an agreement which you will find difficult, if not impossible to keep to.
You do need to stick to your guns - they should not put pressure on you to make payments that you can not afford:

If you are finding it difficult to 'talk' to these people, why not give one of the Debt Counselling Charities a call. Debitas are less likely to try to 'intimidate' CAB, CCCS or National Debtline, all of which know exactly how to deal with 'bullies'.I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

More help needed. I wrote to Debitas a week last Wednesday (Feb 6th), requesting some payment slips as I pay over the counter. I sent my letter by recorded delivery. According to the Royal Mail website my letter was delivered on the 7th. I have yet to receive a reply and my next repayment is due by the 16th.
I plan on writing again tomorrow, but I don't want to get into further trouble for missing my payment. I presume their failure to reply will count in my favour, but I'd like some further advice from forum members on what to do next.0 -
