Help my boiler, please.

I was awoke at half 4 this morning when my heating kicked in. My boiler was squeaking, whistling or something similar, anyway it was an awful noise.
The boiler is 6 years old.
My dad said, it may just been because the exhaust pipe outside was potentially frozen (we had a horrid freeze overnight) and it was whistling through the frost as the noise stopped as soon as the boiler reached full temperature.
I've put the heating on again tonight, again its in the minus figures outside and it made the noise again, not for as long this time.
Does anyone have any suggestions before I pay for an emergency plumber?
Many thanks in advance

It won't be the flue (exhaust as you put it - can't see how that is going to freeze).
Condensate drain freezing? (which is what he is remembering) possibly but it'll need more than one night's frost to do that IMHO.
Pump? - possibly. Fan? - possibly. Doesn't sound as though you need an emergency plumber.
HeatTeam (Baxi/Potty Service Arm) will do a fixed price repair.

Thanks for your help Keystone. My brother's friend came round yesterday and changed a part on it, something to do with a rubber o ring in the diverter valve (or similar, I wasn't in). Anyway the part was cheap at only £30.00 and I gave him £20.00 for his time, so all in all a relatively pain free experience and a healthy boiler. He did my service at the same time, so I'm very happy.Ever feel like you take 2 steps forward and 8 back?
