Tesco saving application is a joke!

Options
I'm absolutely furious, it is now 2 weeks since I sent my application form in on-line to open their saver account.
It said it could take 5 days to verify my identity, I obviously haven't got one since I've heard nothing.

Rang up again earlier this week on 0845 number, and was eventually told not to worry as the account had been opened, not much good really since I haven't had any verification of this and so no way to add money etc.

Rang up again tonight, after finding an 0800 number, got straight through but the guy I spoke to had to try and get through to another department, was holding on for over 20 mins and then got an automated voice telling me some rubbish about the voicemail I was trying to connect to was not answering!!!!!

This is not the way to do business Tesco and I award you the rubbish service of the week award:mad:

  • If you haven't put any money with them yet, I would go elsewhere. If they are that poor at this stage, imagine trying to get your money back.

Its not always like that - I opened my saver online and it was fully working about 5 minutes later. No problems at all.

However, their 'customer service' department is certainly a little lacking.
  • Slightly off topic but had our first joint savings account with Tesco, don't recall it being a faff to open. We had quite a bit saved in there, for the parts we had today for, for our wedding. Our house deposit and legal fees etc came out of those savings too. Ended up with about £3 in there. Trying to close the account was a real pain so we didn't bother. Some time later we received a letter from Tesco highlighting our lack of deposits (we started a joint savings account elsewhere) and did we want to close? Just signed the enclosed form and sent it back in the prepaid envelope, cheque for the balance was received in a couple of weeks.

The information on their site states that you have 30 days to pay money into a new account.
Does that mean that I can open an account today, say a FR 2 yr. bond at 2.75% and deposit funds when my Halifax bond matures on 18th. December and guarantee that rate.
The way rates are falling this rate could be pulled within hours.
  • This just keeps getting better:eek:

Still no word about account opening after over 2 weeks.
I rang again today, couldn't be put through to who I needed, but was told I'd be contacted in 24hrs.
Postie has just been with a letter from Tesco addressed to my O.H. who applied on-line on 28th November.

Hurrah, I thought at least one of us has an account opened.

Couldn't believe when I saw they were asking for confirmation of identity and address, either original or certified copies.

Whatever happened to electronic verification checks.
I opened about 5 accounts in the past 12 months and not once did we have to faff about like this, it's like going back in time!

I'd already given them bank details on the application form, so I'd say they know plenty about us.

    Anyway that's it.
    I've had enough
    Goodbye Tesco, it's your loss:mad:

Tesco use them, but if they are not happy with the end result, they will ask for paper id. I got a savings account opened whilst I waited a few seconds online, and a CC approved online and posted out to me within 5 days, so they can clearly do it.

Must just be something about your address? Do you live in a shared property, flat or apartment? Is the address you entered the same as how it appears on the electoral roll?

Hi Grommit, stop rubbing it in!

    I feel like flaming fugitive.
We've lived at the same address for 8 years, never had a problem being verified before, actually I lie, i opened 2 accounts, 1 was instantly verified, the other not.

However it was for a large bond deposit so it had to be done, that was some years ago.

Anyway I was so cross i rang up again, apparently it is the opening account team I need not the saving side. not that we got through as there was a queue, apparently everyone is trying to open one of these accounts!
Had a good few minutes having a moan to a very understanding young man who said he'd get someone to contact me;)

Anyway they can bog off, I've just filled in an application for the Post Office one.
    Who writes these application forms????
When it came to putting in my sort code there was a 'find my bank button, clicked it and Abbey National popped up, since it is now Santander and has been for quite a while I got a bit edgy.
however I had to leave it as it wouldn't let me amend it.

Finally finished the application where it promptly told me it was ""currently processing the application and would be in touch in due course"

    We'll see!

Off to apply for an M&S one now, hopefully painlessly as we already have ISA's with them.

Can't wait for next year as we have 4 bonds and 2 lots of I.S.A.s maturing

    Happy Days.

Keep thinking back to the days when everything was in one account, typically we were abroad on holiday when Northern Rock fiasco happened, all went downhill from there onwards
I'm running out of password ideas!!!!
  • Update on application saga.

Just received call back from Tesco.

Apparently they were having trouble verifying my bank account, I've only been with them nearly 40years so I can quite understand the problem:mad:

However I only need to send them a bank statement and all will be well, hold on though, I only bank on-line , will have to print out a statement, can't get it stamped/verified as the nearest branch is over 25miles away, so really that's probably scuppered that.
Anyway I'm being sent a form so we'll see.

My O.H. will have to send all verification identity though, so he is not taking up their kind offer.

Still couldn't get a valid explanation as to why it has taken 18 days now to get to this stage for me.

Never mind, O.H will no doubt have a chuckle over the M&S application form I filled in for him.

Their drop-down list of occupations is rather short and consists of: employed, a homemaker, part-time worker, in full time education, on disability benefits, self-employed or unemployed.

No retired title on there I'm afraid so I've put him down as a homemaker.:rotfl:
I've had to put myself down as that too unfortunately.

Pity they didn't have a Savings Application Filler-Inner, that seems to be my main occupation today.

Oh, and lets not forget also chasing utility companies who are blaming each other for not sorting out final bill/reading when I switched. They'll ring back next week when it's sorted, ha!

Right, off to do some homemakery things, it's flaming hard work this retirement business.

Give them a ring. I'm paperless, but if I ask for a statement, they'll post one out for free. No need for you to print from OLB or get it signed or stamped.

(Duplicate statements carry a charge, but if you've not received a statement (as your paperless), the first copy is free)

Have you seen the thread with the sagas people had with their M&S applications, and with depositing money into their accounts?
