as few as possible if I can as that way I don't spend money on unnecessery things.I have a shopping list by the kettle and on it goes things I have run out of I never shop on a relular basis but I suppose over the period of a month I would perhaps use
M& S for fruit, and maybe veg if reduced
Iceland for milk and bread (they do seedy bread there at a pound a loaf)
Sainsburys for bargains (if they have an offer on )
Tesco's if I really have to (not keen on the big massive stores takes too long to walk around and I can find better things to do with my life:)
Wilkinsons for cleaning bits and loo rolls
Aldi's when their veg on offer is what I am looking for ,more so in the winter as I make a lot of soups
The nearest Lidls is 9 miles away so not worth the trip or the deisel for the savings
No local Coop.
Morrisons only if I want a special offer (got 6 boxes of Yorkshire tea last year at silly money,DD prefers it to anything else)
But mainly I can get most stuff locally if possible and I am lucky that I live near to a great farm shop and also we have a wet-fish shop where I live, or failing that I will take my DGS to Whitstable about half an hour away and after a wander on the beach I will buy some fresh fish from the fish hall there thats only been landed that morning0 -
Waitrose - closest to me - every couple of days, either top-up bits or shopping for others.
Sainsbury - used to be about three times a week as I drove past every day but now that I don't, once a week
Tesco - once every ten days or so
LIDL - once a fortnight, unless there's something on the Specials that I want.Used to be every week as it was another store I drove past & I was able to get in there as it opened at 8am - lovely, no queues, so a fast shop!
ALDI - same as LIDL
Morrisons - once every six weeks or so
Local chain of supermarkets - once every couple of months
Co-op - same as above
Asda - same as above
**ah, just re-read your post Edwardia - sorry haven't time now to put why I use those stores - will try to update later**0 -
Surprised at how many people shop at M & S! My perception of M & S (maybe wrongly) is that it's very expensive. Our closest one is in our main town so it isn't somewhere I would shop anyway. But obviously people living in and around London, have more stores to choose from.0

Tesco - once a week small shop for offers
Sainsbury's - every couple of weeks for offers
Sainbury's Local once/twice a week for milk and one newspaper on Saturday
Co-Op occasionally as there is a small one nearby
Waitrose if I'm visiting my Grandmother as it's near her house (every week for her shopping pick up a couple of bits for me)
Lidl - Every two/three weeks for tins of toms/passata/ham
Iceland - Every few weeks, only spend 5-10 pounds
M & S - Very occasionally for a treat - spend about £10.00
Poundland/99p store sometimes pick up biscuits/crisps/sweets/cereal here - every few weeks
Never go to Morrisons, Home Bargains or Aldi as there are none near here. Nearest branches are 20 + miles away. Ditto for Asda, although I do like Asda shops.A minute at the till, a lifetime on the bill.
Nothing tastes as good as being slim feels.
one life, live it!0 -
lidl, tesco and iceland on a weekly basis, one usually runs offers on somethin we need0

Sainsbury's - My 'go to' store [having previously worked there etc]. I like a lot of the own brand products and they have some decent offers, especially on alcohol. Also tempted there by the nectar points, which I build up for free with the online ad service.
Asda - They tend to have things in stock that I can't find elsewhere or are dearer than elsewhere. Eg, frozen baby corn, dragon fruit, cheap Orzo.
Tesco - Our closest store, so it tends to be used for the main shop. Not so keen on the vegetables from there, but the 'Everyday Value' ready meals are okay.
Morrisons - Only tend to pop in for the offers. And, I don't really do any 'big' shops there but they do have some nice bakery items.
Aldi / Lidl - I like the offers on the fruit/veg, some of the dairy items and the cheap pop.
Iceland - Another one to pop in just for bits, although in the past I've used it more frequently. Dairy products are reasonably good and they obviously have some decent frozen prices. I also like their mince pies, which are £1.50 for 12.
M&S - Tend to pop in now and again for the Dine In For £10 or gifts like the chocolate/biscuit sets.
I am definitely one of those people who check online first. I tend to decide which place is best for the big items [the sort of things I only buy on offer] and I will even visit different stores during the week to minimise my spending. I am quite lucky now though, as we have 2* Asda, 2* Sainsburys, 3* Tesco, 2* Aldi, 2* Lidl, 3* Iceland, 1* M&S and 1* Morrisons all within 5-10 minutes drive of the house.Previously, I've lived in towns with much less choice - last year, we had to travel for 40 minutes on a bus to reach anything other than a Tesco Metro!

make a list
go on mysupermarket
see if I can screw ASDA or Tesc0 with their price match thingy...
shop at stores cost effectively and combine visits. e.g. I sign on every other week and park for free in sainsburys so shop there after signing on also go to market for veg.
I fuel up at ASDA every other week, so will go and shop there. collect DS#1 on weds, thur or fri and have around 30 mins for Mr T shop on way home. Alternatively make a list up (mysupermarket) and go on tuesday.
I also buy meat from Costco every 6 months and portion it for the freezer.
Am trying hard to remember who out of Lidl or Aldi have the xmas hot nibbles (e.e. duck pancake rolls, vege pancake rolls etc for £1/pack)...just in case you need to know:
HWTHMBO - He Who Thinks He Must Be Obeyed (gained a promotion, we got Civil Partnered Thank you Steinfeld and Keidan)
DS#1 - my twenty-five-year old son
DS#2 - my twenty -one son0 -
I dont ten to do a big weekly shop any more and if I see an offer buy enough for a few weeks worth.
I tend to pop to Morrisons and Lidl weekly, usually on a Saturday when Lidl have offers on
Aldi once a week,for ham and super6
Asda probably monthly if I am on my way to somewhere else as although other find them good value I find them expensive
Tesco about once a month
Wholesale fruit and veg place about once a fortnight, things are very fresh and last the two weeks
B&M about once a fortnight
Farmfoods every month 6 weeks as not near where I live so only go if I am on my way to somewhere else
I am good with money and always only buy what I need, we do eat very well and I dont spend a fortune.
I tend to pop to shops on my way to other places such as DS football matches, popping to see friends etc rather than making specific journeys0 -

Aldi had these in when I was there on Friday, also had boxes of about 60 items for £40 -
Aldi, then Sainsbury's most weeks. Getting much more at the former these days.
Meat market once a month.
Co-op/Asda sometimes if popping in -- closest to work/home.
Waitrose and M&S - now and again...
99p Store if in town and want to see what's around.0
