car insurance cancellation

    if a car insurance policy start on 20/1/2013, and i made a payment today (22/12/12), and decide not go ahead, can i still be charged cancellation fees? Policy not yet received by email. I did call them half an hour after making payment, and have now written an email as well...

    Either record the phone call to them saying your cancelling and will not be taking the policy or write a letter and send it recorded delivery.

    Emails are not ideal.

    Although the policy has not started. They have incurred costs setting it up.

    So only way to tell is asking them and reading the terms and conditions.

    You made a payment. Full payment or a deposit?

    Whatever you do. Dont just go and cancel the direct debit and think they will go away.
