PCN from council - electric vehicles

next to my gym there is a small car park which is always full, theres permitted only parking near by between certain hours. the gym car park has two electric vehicle charging points...can you be fined for parking in them in a normal car? the signs dont say electric vehicle only, in fact it says 'electric vehicles. while charging only max stay 4 hours. no return same day'

ive just seen someone get fined for this, can they do that? am i being blonde? i thought it would have to say electric vehicles only?

luckily, i mainly walk to the gym as its only aprox 800 metres - but id always assumed you could park there

I don't know about the legalities but I guess it would a bit annoying if you owned an electric car and didn't have enough charge to get home but couldn't get to the recharging point because some lazy a$$ was parked in your way. Especially if said lazy a$$ had parked there because they couldn't be bothered to make the effort to walk to the gym!

oh i didnt get a fine, i was just interested to know the answer!

it would be annoying if anyone in gateshead could actually afford an electric car in the first place....the parking spots are ALWAYS free, ive never seen an electric vehicle on charge so always look - because im sad like that! :rotfl:

its a council ran gym and theres no where near enough parking for the size of it. its a leisure centre with local pool etc i believe the council are actually building a bigger car park to accomodate the users so they have acknowledged theres a problem

I also post on pepipoo forums and can recall two Council PCNs both cancelled on appeal when the recipients argued (among other things) that the Electric Vehicle signs didn't say 'only'. I am sure at least one of those cases went to adjudication and the adjudicator agreed with the motorist.

So I think you have a point but I would not chance it due to the hassle!

That may only apply to london though as it isn't listed on many pages. Either that or its relatively new (I've been out of the game for a few years).

EDIT: Apparently it was brought about in April 2011 but still not sure if its london only or all over.
