Thanks everyone for all of the great ideas. I really like the key ring idea, I looked into it and I am just hoping i can have it ready by xmas. I also love the xmas card idea from bump to grandad and mum. I'm going to take a look at pintrest and see what I get from there.
Thanks again everyone!!!0 -
Is it not going to be special enough without all the hoopla?
What next? A lap of honour around the maternity ward doing the Mobot? Presenting the child once born to the grandparents to an overture of trumpets and a display of fireworks? Heralding each dirty nappy with a flashmob song and dance routine? Video of the first steps directed by Peter Jackson against a background of rampaging orcs?

Yes I think a simple, "we're having a baby" is the best, words often mean more than just handing a keyring, knitting kits etc...Received £2,626.00 in PPI -2013:j

I agree with just telling them. Yes I know it isn't creative, but, why does everything have to cost money these days? It smacks of tackiness to me to be honestThe opposite of what you know...is also true0

If you are sending Christmas cards anyway, just buy 'Nana & Grandad' ones instead. This is what I did 25 years ago when my daughter was my parents' first grandchild. It took a while for the penny to drop but their face was a picture!

aw brings back memories! We announced our 1st pregnancy on christmas day 12 years ago! i wrapped a small present for each of them & they all had to open them together! the presents were - a bottle brush (mil), some sudocrem(fil), aunt bessies something or another (sil), a cake book called "grans favourites" (mum), a jar of baby food(brother) and a diary with every other saturday marked "babysitting"(dad).
It was sooo funny watching them all open the gifts, i remember my dad just going "oh thanks thats 2 diarys", and oh prompting him to open it! mil & fil looked disgusted in their gifts, mum & sil managed polite thankyou's, & after a couple of minutes staringat his gift it was my brother who finally stood up, hugged me, shook oh hand & said congratulations, they all cottened on VERY quickly after that!
none of us will ever forget it, all the bestIt's not about getting what you want, It's about wanting what you get.0 -
IS your sister past 12 weeks? If not she might want to keep the annoucements fairly low key. I don;t want to sound awful, but as someone who has had five first trimester miscarriages, I know only too well that pregnancy does not always equal baby.
