This is probably too late but I have lived in East Lothian most of my life and considerate a beautiful county. Like all places each town has its pros and cons and as has already been said house prices vary considerably from town to town, so all depends on budget and requirements. I don't want to repeat much of what has been said but in my opinion things to consider along with budget are amenities.

Dunbar, North Berwick,Prestonpans, Musselburgh, Haddington, Tranent all have Swimming Pools, sports centres, health centres, community centres, primary and secondary schools.

The first five all have at least one public house and somewhere decent to eat out.

The first four all have train stations. Dunbars trains are less frequent.

All but Prestonpans and Tranent have a Tesco but both have Co-ops.

If there is anything specific you want to know like names of centres or links to websites, you could pm me.

I am originally from West Lothian, then moved to Musselburgh 15 years ago. Back then it was a lovely place, but now both High Streets look quite run down, lots of shops closed and is full of charity shops or bookies.

I then moved to Tranent and was there for 5 years. God what a dump! It is an awful place and I hated every minute of living there.

I then moved to London for a short while and am now back home in West Lothian.

I would definitely give Tranent and Prestonpans a miss. Musselburgh is fine but as shops have closed it is getting a bit more run down. It does have a train station though. Wallyford has a train station too, so if you were up the top part of Musselburgh you could get the train from there, though I wouldn't recommend living in Wallyford because it is just a tiny village. North Berwick is nice but houses are expensive. Dunbar, lovely place to visit but wouldn't really want to live there. Haddington is a lovely wee market town, but has a lot of teenagers hanging around on the main street at nights.

I have pretty much said what everyone else has really so doubt this is very useful lol

    The weather...End of decision...
It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.
  • Thought I woulld post this here! As well as.... had another thought. ..all have Golf courses except tranent!
