If you actually look at the form, WTC is paid to the person working (regardless of sex). Where both people are working, the form asks you to choose who you would like to receive the WTC.

If you mean the application form, then it is many years ago since I filled out that. And then it was in an on line format - not a paper one. All we have done since then is do renewal each year just to get the basic element of £545 to pay them back the overpayment. It is only now that she is 16 and in further non advanced FE that we again qualify for getting CTC in full and some WTC from when my OH worked this year on a pro rata basis. And all because I get income related ESA support group as a couple.

Schools are keen to get all children who are entitled to claim free school meals claiming them because schools are judged against other schools - and the criteria for defining similar schools (ie those that have a similar catchment/cohort as each other) is WHOLLY based on free school meals take-up! (AFAIK)

This is the bit I dont agree with, parents on benefits already get enough cash to look after their kids and it is unfair to parents who dont recieve this benefit when the qualifying families get preferential treatment on all sorts of other things like free school trips and free lap tops etc

We have to pay £22 pm for our children to have an Ipad at school, school meals, trips, £5 pw for bus to activities. Those on benefits get it free.

It's not even school meals, it is far more than meals and it all adds up to inadvertant benefits they claim.

Wow, I must be doing something wrong then at my kids school. I get HB, CTB, TC and free school meals but I can't get help with trips etc. I pay for them all in full. I'm not entitled to JSA because i'm in college but I still have to find the £50 to travel to school each week as I can't get travel help or I have to walk my children 3 miles each way and I have to pay for childcare each morning too. Not everybody claims everything they possibly can and i'd feel bad if I did because there's people out there who actually need the help more than what I feel I do.

I know children who have only ever been out of my town with their schools and the only hot meal they have is the one they get in school. If it's taken away, then these kids with nothing have even less!
