Since you are using a 64bit OS then it will be able to make full use of the 4GB you put in there. Ignore the posts saying you will only actually see only 3.25GB or whatever. This is only for 32bit OSes.
If you still decide to go for 32 bit Windows 8, do not spend any money. Borrow or otherwise acquire a 32bit install DVD for Windows 8 and use your existing licence key as it is valid for both editions.0 -
64bit or not, I wouldn't bother personally unless you got a 2GB memory stick very cheap or donated from a friend that was upgrading. DDR2 memory is old now and quite expensive new compared to DDR3 available for newer systems. I'm not convinced you would see much of a performance improvement either.
Also, I must ask, why did you upgrade to Windows 8? Did your system have Vista installed or something?0
