Mobile got barred/blacklisted after a year

Hi,

I purchased HTC DESIRE HD mobile phone on orange network off ebay last november and resold it for a little profit after unlocking it to all networks.

Buyer has just informed me that phone was working fine with three (3) network simcard until now. I have done checkmend which shows imei blocked and they confirmed blocked by orange on 28th november 2012.

I don't know how this has happened but is it possible that buyer made insurance claim and insurance people blocked it? but again it was blocked by ORANGE and not 3 network as used by the buyer.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Looks like your original seller probably reported it as lost now, for an insurance claim.

Could it be my buyer did this?possible?
  • Sorry, but the phone is probably useless now. I imagine the original owner has reported it as stolen and it has been blocked. It is a scam that sometimes happens on ebay. It is illegal to unblock it, it can be done but tbh I think you are probably stuffed.

I would have thought this to be impossible given it wouldn't be registered to them.

    Plus why would they?

I would imagine it's the person you bought it off who has claimed it's lost/stolen and got an insurance claim.

If Orange have blocked it, then you could call them and give them proof that the phone was sold, so point out it's insurance fraud.

When did your buyer buy it? I'd ask them to return it and refund them.

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

It was sold a year ago. Orange needs the mobile number connected to this imei which we don't have. Is there a known trick which i can use to scare the owner to co-operate with this issue?

    Thank you.

If it was sold a year ago, then they need to cooperate with YOU, otherwise you can just refuse to help them by giving them a refund.

(I was initially thinking you bought it a year ago, used it, then recently sold it on).

DO NOT REFUND!! Ask them for the mobile phone number that it's currently on - is this the number Orange are after? My money is still on the original owner reporting it as lost.

As the sale was so long ago, there's nothing your buyer can do really.

I think Chari means the original seller.
