charged for printing a cheque and a charge for overdraft

Hi everyone, hope you can help...

I asked Halifax to print me a cheque yesterday but they said it would cost me £10... I agreed to it, because it was cheaper than paying the fine I would've got for handing the cheque in late! I can't find any small print saying that they were allowed to do this though, is this £10 charge fair? (I'm on their student account).

Secondly, in my Nationwide account, my accommodation rent was taken out, causing me to get an "unauthorised overdraft". However almost straightaway I transferred money from my halifax student account in, and as the charge didn't come up on my online statement I thought I'd got away with it...! I'm annoyed it happened, as I thought I had enough in my account, and I'd really like that £20 back :o

Thanks xx

I dont know about the cheque but,
if you just phone them up about the other charge
they tend to refund it straight away.

Basically yes - they are providing you with a service and can charge for it. Not their fault you'd left your cheque book at home. As regards the Nationwide charge, agree with the comments of other posters - suggest you contact Nationwide directly in the first instance.
