Mysterious letter from Mackenzie Hall - advice please?

if the debt existed (and I doubt it very much but can't check...) would it now be mine?
It would only be yours, if the debt was a joint one.
If it was solely your husband's, then you are not liable for it.
It would come out of the estate.
If there's nothing in the estate, then the debt becomes uncollectable.
Be careful, as some, less ethical, companies will try to persuade you to take out a loan, to pay off the debt.
If it's not to painful for you, may I ask how long it has been, since your husband passed away?0 -
Thanks Bob, its been nearly a year. My husband was never great with money and had ccj's when i met him 14 years ago... so i'm very cautious in case this is something that's finally caught him up.
I called the Debtline just now, the chap was lovely and helpful - I've to send a copy of the death cert and explain any debt isn't mine; please write it off and leave me alone.
If they choose to push it further, well, we'll have to see then...0 -
I'm guessing there was nothing in the estate, so the debt died with him.0

My partner received a letter from Mackenzie Hall today saying that he owed their client £4335.69:eek:. The "pursuers" are Arrow Global Ltd and the original creditor is Fairmile Partnership 1 LLP. We don't know who the hell Fairmile are and can't find out anything about them. Anyway they said that " client would prefer an amicable resolution but they will not hesitate to take such action as may be appropriate. I consider that to be a threat to make him cough up.
They want payment by noon 4/12/12 - well, they can whistle! OH says he's never taken out any loans and any debts he has he's paying off so he doesn't understand why he got this letter. He wanted to ring them but I said not to but what's the best thing to do here? Should he ignore it or ask them to prove the debt?
Many thanks in advance,

Ignore them. If you dont know what this letter is about and you're sure it's nothing to do with you...then ignore them. They dont have a leg to stand on.Debt Free! Long road, but we did it

ha! i just got the same letter - after ignoring several snotty calls from mh last week and letting my equally snotty answering machine answer...
pursuer - arrow global - who apparently operate out of a flat in manchester somewhere.....
never heard of them, but they buy up old debts.
original creditor - fairmile partnership 1llp. who from a quick google have existed in several guises and are currently in liquidation themselves, again, registered in didsbury, manchester.
(just down the road - maybe i should gather some troops and go pay them a personal visit, cos i know that's what i'd do if someone owed me a grand and wouldn't pay)
apparently i owe them £1104.19 which i have absolutely no idea about.
bearing in mind i sold my house in 2010 to clear my mortgage & other debts and every single item on my credit report was cleared (afaik)
the only thing in my dark and dismal past that i dont remember paying fully is a rbs cc which woud've been going back to 1999 / 2000 so they can whistle for that.
i think i'll let them send a few more letters before i raise an eyebrow over this.
firstly, they need to be a bit more specific as i don't recognise any of the names, and i certainly haven't dealt personally with any company named in the letter.
i would like to know exactly what this debt is for, when i agreed to it, and to whom.
am i correct in thinking that if a company has sold an old debt they have also sold on my private details contrary to the data protection act?
il update if (when) any more letters / threats arrive!

I also have received this letter.
Pursuers : Arrow Global Limited
Original Creditor: Fairmile Partership 1 llp
Debt £5300
This supposedly from 2000
I have reported this to the police ad received a crime number, they in turn asked me to report it to Action Fraud who are creating a case.
I have also spoken, at their suggestion, to National Debt Line who categorically state that if you have never acknowledged this debt or received any kind of court judgement or ccj, have never seen it on your credit file or paid anything towards the debt in the last 6 years, as someone else stated in this thread , it is indeed, under the Limitations Act 'Statue Barred' meaning they cannot claim a penny of the money.
HOWEVER:
I know for a fact that this is a fraudulent claim, in my case at least because I entered into a IVA in 2001 and went bankrupt in 2004. Meaning EVERY debt I had was listed (this one wasn't a debt I had incurred) and even if it had been it is covered under the bankruptcy & IVA
So chances are these are just made up debts. I have been told not to speak to Mackensie Hall and ignore all further letters OR write to them re my bankruptcy status from 2004 and also quote the Limitations Act Statue Barred.
Hope that helps0
