Balance transfer without spending the amount yet

Hi All,

I hope you can help me a bit with this. So I have a

Halifax card
I need to make a couple of purchases using this card, totaling £1200. However I still need to buy the extra £800 and I wont do this until next week.

The idea is that once I spent the £1200 I would like to transfer the balance to my existing Santander card which has an offer. Now their 0% balance offer expires this week.

Can I transfer £1200 now even though I have not yet spent the amount so that I can then spend it next week. Essentially it will put me into a positive balance.

Hope that makes sense.
Thanks

Not a good idea to. Credit cards are not to be run like that. Although unlikely it will flag up anywhere, they have every right to decline the card on a positive balance.

    Worth a try though ;)

Most of the time you get away with having a positive balance for a while. I regularly overpay because I know I will be spending again on a purchase card. It's only when you try to close the account and ask for a cheque they may refuse. I wouldn't hesitate for this amount of money

It's against the terms to deliberately create a positive balance.

It might not be a problem; but OTOH they could send the money back where it came from, in which case you've spent 3% for nothing!

How often do Santander do balance transfer offers? If they're anything like MBNA, you'll get another offer next week.
