I was unfortunate enough to use this company (in their previous life before they declared themselves bankrupt..same director..(text removed by MSE forum Team)/devonshire stables)..They owed me £4700 after I WON A CCJ AGAINST THEM..and they owed many more people money. The're now prowling ebay again!
I have contacted the COWBOY BUILDERS TV PROGRAMME who are showing interest IN DEVONSHIRE STABLES/(text removed by MSE Forum Team).I'm not saying DEVONSHIRE STABLES/DEVONSHIRE TIMBER ARE COWBOY BUILDERS-just the FACTS WHAT (text removed by MSE forum Team) TRADING AS DEVONSHIRE STABLES DID and now DEVONSHIRE STABLES may feature on COWBOY BUILDERS tv programme.

Sorry to hear your experiences. You say you managed to obtain a CCJ against them - can you outline what steps you took to do that?
  • Hi Guys, I had a retaining wall built and four steps built in my garden last June. Company claims work is guaranteed and fully insured. However the steps are cracked and sinking, I did contact last September to advise that I was not happy with work alas I have heard nothing from the so called landscape gardener. I feel the steps are so unsafe that the could actually cave-in!
Where do I go from here please?

    Hiya - sounds a pain.

I would suggest speaking to the local CAB - they are usually full of great advice
  • Cheers Nads, will do and let you know what happens

we had a loft conversion and first floor renovation started in oct 2012 and it still is unfinished as all he did was ask for more and more money promising to finish the work and eventually we gave up on the chasing.
the roofs in our two bedrooms leak for which we had given him extra to fix but now have been told by some roofers that the builder did not actually fix/change anything.
They are operating as MNR construction and also RAN constructions in Harrow HA3, (text removed by MSE Forum Team) - lives in luxury and is out and about on jobs continuing to swindle others.
  • Terrible builders and even worse people!! Buyer Beware! I bought a brand new house that cost best part of £300k from Yateley Construction 2 weeks ago and what a horrible experience! The moment we moved in we had issues – the finish on the house was awful and the after sales service non-existent – once they got their money, Sally Trendal from Yateley Construction hid behind the Estate Agent an her tone was rude, obnoxious and behaved in the most unprofessional manner I have ever experienced – worse than a dodgy second hand car dealer! Day 1 – The boiler was not working in the house Day 3 – Got the boiler working with no help from Yateley Construction only to have a shower and s deluge of water flooded into the lounge Things got worse from there – I am married and have a small child – some of the following will shock you as how Cowboy Builders like this get away with cutting corners – an employee of theirs even told me that Yateley Construction is notorious for cutting corners - issues like 1. The oven had not been screwed in and was loose – when we pulled the door open the whole oven nearly collapsed on my wife! 2. The extractor fan in the kitchen makes a noise as if there is something stuck in it – its brand new so can’t imagine what is rattling around inside 3. Washing machine is very noisy, the rubber band inside the machine is where the noise is coming from and the whole thing shakes violently when in use - the whole kitchen moves when the machine is on spin and the doors are getting loose! 4. The Sealant around the bath tub is almost none existent and where there is sealant it does not do the job its supposed too – it’s very bad in there 5. Where the deluge of water came down from the shower tray last week it has stained the walls and some of it needs to be repainted 6. Big area not painted around the smoke alarm on the ceiling on the first floor – it’s just been left 7. Again the sealant around the kitchen sink and work top area is non-existent or badly done and water is leaking and impeding the wood - the laminate on top of the wood is lifting because of the water and air that has got underneath the worktop - worktop is already damaged after only 4 days of use!! 8. Fan in the downstairs toilet does not work – I have tried to change fuses but still doesn’t work There seems to be an issue with the sealant in the whole house – all bathrooms and kitchen have been done very badly and as a result water is leaking everywhere – its causing water leakage and damage throughout the property! 1. Gas was not getting to the hobs – I had British Gas come to house and turn on the gas from the mains behind the oven – the British Gas engineer noticed the oven was not screwed in and said that’s very dangerous 2. The Washing machine plug was left behind the units – we had to fish the plug out in order to get it to work 3. Although the water pipes to the washing machine and dishwasher were attached they were not tightened resulting in water leakage in the kitchen. 4. The ladder going up to the loft – the bolts were not fastened and actually came loose as I walked up the ladders – I nearly fell to the side and would have ended up falling down the stairs had I not got my balance I complained through the estate agent and Sally Trendell's response basically consisted off - So what if there are issues, talk to our lawyers! Yateley Construction have claimed that I had plenty of time to raise these issues however without having a shower and washing clothes and cooking food in there before moving in I wouldn't have known these things. After spending all that money with them - all they had to do was send someone round for half a day to fix the issues but they didn't want to do that!! I learnt a lot of lessons by buying this house from Yateley Construction - please do not make the same mistake that I did - its a lot of money to play Russian roulette with!!!

I've had a terrible experience with Peak Plumbing, Leeds, West Yorkshire.

Click here to see full photos and a brief description of my terrible experience

Peak Plumbing installed a boiler which leaked gas. They were called out, given an opportunity to fix it, but having made a brief visit, told me that if there were any further problems I should contact the boiler manufacturer, and left without fixing the problem.

Worried and concerned, I called Gas Safe who sent an inspector. Upon entering the kitchen (and before even approaching the unit) the inspector told me I had a serious gas leak. After inspection, he shut the boiler down straight away. He then prepared a report, which made several points, one of which said the gas supply defect was classified as immediately dangerous. The nut on the boiler isolation valve was hand tight only (i.e. the inspector was able to unscrew the nut by hand).

Gas Safe instructed Peak Plumbing to fix the boiler. They made inspections of the work during and after the corrective measures, to ensure that the work was safe.

The boiler, chosen by the company, continues to function in an unsatisfactory manner, with very poor output of hot water.

Several letters were sent, and it was only when one was sent signed-for delivery was a response received, which did not address the main areas of complaint to my satisfaction. The matter has not been resolved to my satisfaction.

Highly unsatisfactory, expensive and personally distressing experience. When I think about family and friends who stayed with me over Christmas, when, unknown to me, the boiler was unsafe, I shudder at the thought of what might have happened.
  • STEER WELL CLEAR of Hugo Herrera of HC Interiors!! - we contracted him to complete a bathroom wet room refurbishment and new cloakroom in our first floor maisonette. He charged us over £1000 in materials, took more than half of the money up front and then left us high and dry half way through the job after causing some serious structural damage to our party wall due to complete incompetence. Sadly he claimed to have all the qualifications, experience and knowledge necessary to complete the job but it simply was not true - his work was shabby, amateur and dangerous. The other tradesmen that came in to complete the job and pick up the pieces were all amazed at the poor quality and state the job was left in. Hoping this message will come up on Google for anyone considering using him for any refurbishment work, don't do it!
