DLA home visit

My son will be 16 next year so i received a letter from dla asking if he could manage his own affairs(he cant).I put on the form that i will continue to be his appointee and sent it off.
Someone from dla is coming for a visit next week and i just wondered what to expect.Has anyone had one of these visits?what type of questions are asked?thanks in advance:)

    It's entirely normal.
Simply to check if it's appropriate for you to continue to be his appointee, and if he has a view.
Parents can have pessimistic views on their childs ability in some cases, so it's reasonable to ask.
  • Thanks for the quick reply,i knew they did these checks just wasnt sure what to expect.
Will i need to show what his money has been spent on? Just so i know if i need to hunt out receipts etc to have them ready for the visit.

It's basically to see if it's appropriate for him to take control of the funds himself.
It's not an interview to see if it's being spent properly - though that may come up.

Clearly if he says he wants the money, and it turns out you're spending it all on gin, then the argument is lots stronger that his request is reasonable than if you're spending it on therapies, or extra costs due to his health condition.

yes i had one yesterday for my son! Very nice lady. Happy that my son was not 'mature' enough to cope with the money. She spoke to me alone so I could explain his needs. She then asked him to sign the form after she checked his ID. DS is not aware we claim DLA he would bully us for the money and use it all for fags and alcohol for himself and 'mates'. The lady was very understanding and said it was a common problem with kids like DS. We will use the money we receive for him but at least under our control!!
