Hi all
I posted this message earlier, and only got one reply - I really need some more advice - please!
I applied to Payplan last week and have sent off all my letters to my creditors (last Thursday)
I am waiting to get the correct amounts for all my creditors so I can send them my statement of affairs (or whatever it's called)
Today, I received a letter from a local Solicitor acting on behalf of HSBC to recover the debt of £9k for my personal loan on my current account.
I was with a fee-paying debt management company until January, but they were always paying my bills late and I was still accruing interest, so I kind of buried my head in the sand and left it till last week to sort something out.
Should I phone the solicitors and tell them it's in the hands of Payplan now, or should phone HSBC and let them know.
I feel sick, I'm in floods of tears, and though my LBM was last week, I really think it's sunk in today.
I don't know if I want to be here anymore, if I just got on a plane and left, my DH and DS would be better off.

i would ring payplan first thing and tell them about the letter you've received. they maybe looking to get a CCJ against you. Payplan will be able to advice you waht to say etc to solicitor/bank

Hi there,
I'm so sorry you feel this way - even though you think your nearest and dearest would be better off without you, they really wouldn't. I'm in very early stages of dealing with my debt also, and I know if feels like there's an impossible challenge before you.
However, just reading some of the signatures on this site show that people in worse messes than us can achieve it, so we can too.xxxxDFW #414, MoneySaver, Income Booster

Hi J
First all - having been there I know that your kids would not be better off without you - thats it, you're their Mum and they need you most of all - as other posters have told me off for thinking like that I thought I'd pass the message onPlease don't feel bad (listen to me eh? I'm one to talk) but now you have reached your LBM things will start to look very scarey etc but at least you have realised that there is a problem and are not sorting it out. Its so hard when you realise the true extent of your debt but I promise it will get easier and you have done so well in even posting so deserve a big pat on the back :T
Now thats the telling off over :rotfl:
So lets try and sort it out - I think but somebody might know better that the first thing you should do is get in contact with Payplan, they will be able to advise what the best thing to do is. Can I ask are they doing your DMP for you (ie: you paying Playplan) or you dealing with the creditors youself, ie: making payments direct to your creditors yourself.
If Payplan are doing the DMP for you then they will deal with this company but you need to let them know that you have got this letter. If you are doing the DMP yourself, also ask advice about how to deal with them, maybe send a letter stating that you are dealing with Payplan etc and explain how things will get worked out. Try not to worry too much at this stage - a lot of DCA also have "solicitors" in their office used to scare people and its got to through a lot of stages before anything can be done so with Payplans and our help we can get you sorted.
HTH and keep posting xx0 -
Thank you, it does feel better to know someone else is going through this.
As regards to Payplan, they didn't offer the option of me paying to them, just for me to sort it myself, but I have a case number and can tell my creditors I have been given advice by Payplan.
To be honest, I was hoping I could pay Payplan as I feel my creditors would feel Payplan would have more clout than me - I'm sure they'll try to bully me into paying more. I don't know why Payplan wouldn't give me this option?
Thx

As above, I would let Payplan know you have this letter and ask for their advice on what to say or do.
Ask Payplan if they can pay for you, the option may be there so theres no harm in asking, and as you said they may have more of an affect because they are a well known debt help name.
I hope it works out ok for you! x0 -
I'd ask Payplan if they can do the DMP for you - but if not and thats really what you would rather do then how about contacting CCCS - they do exactly the same thing as Payplan and will administrate the plan for you, also they are a non-charging company who the creditors will deal with.
Hope you feel a little better this morning by the wayI was thinking about you last night.
Good luck, let us know how you get on xxx0
